Blue Heaven Beach House Vacation Rental

This is by far the FILTHIEST vacation rental I have ever seen. I would not recommend anyone stay here.  When we pulled in the driveway, it was obvious the house was not as well maintained as the neighboring homes -rust stains and greenish mold stains on the exterior, front door peeling paint and very corroded and dented hardware, front porch which is one story off the ground had lose railing on both sides with only a piece of twine across it – which my 3 year old was drawn to like a magnet and posed a serious danger.  It smelled like there was a dead animal in the home. We opened every cabinet in the kitchen looking for a mouse and finally found rotten asparagus and a foul smelling liquid spilled on the bottom shelf of the wine fridge.  The walls, doors, trim and carpet were filthy throughout every room. The light fixtures, ceiling fans, furniture, and decorative items were coated in dust.  There was an obviously used washcloth hanging from the shower curtain rod which was very loose and about to fall.  The shower curtain was completely coated in mold. There was a used bar of soap with hair on it on the armoire in the bedroom.  Many of the bath towels were thread bar.  The towel bar was broken and fell to the floor when touched.  The toilet paper rollers were all missing. The bed coverings were very obviously dirty.  The master bedroom shower was dirty and moldy. There were panties, dryer sheets, and lots dust around the washer and dryer.  The closet shelves were cluttered up with junk (no extra sheets, pillowcases or blankets though).  The air return vents were covered in copious amounts of dust.  The air vents in the room has a black substance that appeared to be mold.  The ping pong table was covered in rust and what appeared to be mold.  The entire downstairs area which is actually just a garage with slatted walls, was rusty, and filthy – this is not a living space, nor is it safe or suitable for anyone to “play”.  All of the beach chairs were rusty and several were broken.  The beach umbrellas were also broken with one of the umbrellas being completely shredded.  The bicycles are also rusty and broken.  We were told in our initial correspondence with the owner at time of reservation that there was a high chair available for our one year old.  The high chair was completely coated in food, dirt and mold.  It would have taken a pressure washer to even attempt to clean it. We were in immediate contact with the property manager who lives in Mississippi (shortly before our trip we were told that the owners were out of the country on vacation for the summer).  We asked for a partial refund, particularly the cleaning fee, due to the filthy condition the home and gave them numerous photos and a room by room listing of the situation and needed repairs. They denied our request and said they "did everything they could to make our families stay enjoyable" and only gave us the $250 refundable deposit which we would have got back anyway. The only attempt the property manager made was to send a cleaning lady on Tuesday afternoon (4 days after arrival when my family and I were out) with a bottle of bleach and she said "I am here to clean a high chair and a shower." My friend walked her through the entire property and she agreed it needed a deep cleaning and repairs. She also agreed the high chair needed to be trashed. She did give us a bar of soap and some trash bags. This was not sufficient to "make our families stay enjoyable." When asked her to clarify what they did there was no response. Voice mail messages with the property manager and both owners have had no response. Needless to say, we were very upset about having spent nearly $5000 to stay at this awful property.  We were also extremely disappointed in the owners, whom we believed were upstanding citizens and would be appalled once they learned the condition of the property.  Their refusal to at the very least offer to refund the $250 cleaning fee is shocking. Pensacola Beach would be a beautiful family vacation, just don’t stay at “Blue Heaven”.
