He did the tree service for over $2,000. but failed to finish mulching around the property as promised. We also had signed up for a 1 year lawn care agreement. He showed up hit and miss for the first couple months but didn't do the job as promised (weeding, edging etc.). He then started coming every 8-10 days instead of weekly. In July he stopped showing up at all and made up several excuses (sick, equipment stolen, etc). Never showed up again! Stole our money and ran. We weren't the only ones either. He stole from several people! Do not use this service!

Update: 9/9/2015. Never heard from again.
Update: After sending a couple of the attached photos to Anthony he came over the same day to look at my yard. He's promised to make good on his work.
I had contracted with Anthony Smith Tree Service & Landscape to
remove an old wooden fence and pergola, irrigation system repair, level
my entire yard and to lay sod; M&K Lawn Care worked as a subcontractor.
It was a big job. I was assured they had done this type of work before
and cited numerous successful customers in my subdivision. Everything
started out great; they were very responsive and willing to please.
These are truly hard working and energetic people.
I had just bought my house and was spending a lot of money to make repairs and had
told Anthony and Mike that I didn't want to have to spend a lot of money
on irrigation system repairs, but I wanted to be sure it was working
sufficiently to support the sod they were going to lay down. Only two
of my four zones were working. We discovered that the two zones coming
off the well were not working so Mike suggested converting all four
zones to city water. They both assured me they could do this. Mike
estimated $600-800 to replace sprinkler heads and he assured me he would
be done before the grass was laid and that they would cover the new
lawn. He didn't have the equipment to find the irrigation valve box
which had become buried over the years so he pulled in a favor from an
irrigation company to find it. Mike asked me for some cash ($50) to pay
for the guy doing us a favor. Then while using the bobcat to level the
yard they hit my well head which was below grade. Before I was told,
they had called in another favor with a well company to immediately come
over and make the repair. Although I questioned why I should have to
pay for their mistake, I had to pay $350 for the repair, which I was
told was a pretty good discount. Cost for the irrigation system, in
addition to the costs I just stated, turned out to be $1000.
Unfortunately, I still have a lot of other repairs that will need to be
done such as adjusting sprinkler heights and locations.
While the irrigation work was being completed and after the yard leveling was
done, they began to lay sod. Some of the sod sat on pallets for more
than 24 hours. They ran out of sod on a three-day weekend so the front
part of the yard could not be completed until a couple of days later at
an additional cost of about $500 above quote. Upon inspection of my
yard, I found numerous gaps between sod and lawn edges around
trees/shrub areas were not neatly done; most of the sod was haphazardly
laid down. I was told that was intentional and that the grass would
eventually grow together. Some of the rough edging around trees and
shrubs were rounded after I made comments about them The height of the
various pieces of sod are not level; not sure why I paid to have the
yard leveled now. I mention these last two items because my online
research says that sod pieces should be butted up to each other and
offset from each other, and that running a roller over the yard helps
ensure the sod makes good contact with the earth (none of which
happened). When I mentioned the lawn roller to Mike, I was told that's
done only on golf course grass and that it would kill my St Augustine
grass.
Now, after just a few of weeks, there are dead and brown
spots in my lawn. When I questioned Anthony about the dead spots, he
said they could be just dry spots, not dead and additional watering
would help. I found out later that two of the dead areas were not
getting water at all from the irrigation system which I was assured
would not happen. I was told they would check back with me to ensure
the lawn was doing okay. I haven't seen either one of them since they
completed the job. To top things off, after the crew laid sod down and
had left for the day I had to go around and pick up water bottles and
left over irrigation parts from around the yard.
Overall I probably did save money, but time will tell if I got a good deal, or if I
got what I paid for. I feel like I was dealing with "shade tree
mechanics" and not professional landscapers. I'll admit I'm a bit of a
perfectionist, so I'll be happy to update this review if everything
turns out fine. If you aren't as detail oriented as I am, I'm sure
you'll do very well with them.
