Minnie is only 3 years old. The wait time was not very long at all, probably 5 minutes tops. I have had several Chihuahuas and she has been my vet for probably 20 years. I just like her. She is not a people person, but she loves animals. Don’t go in there thinking she is going to be a people person, cause she’s not.

If there was a G option for professionalism I would choose it. I was out of town and needed a vet for a follow up appointment for a bite wound by dog suffered 8 days ago. She had not improved so I brought her in to Sunrise because they had an available appointment. Right away I noticed signs on the walls telling owners to keep their hands off their pets which was a red flag and I should have left. My dog usually enjoys going to the vet because she enjoys meeting new people and dogs. The staff were extremely young and seemed to be in training. The doctor did the complete opposite of everything I suggested that calms my dog down and told me I was not allowed to even stand next to my dog for comfort while being examined. There were no mats on the exam table for her to get her footing and they wouldnt allow me to use an article of clothing I brought to comfort her. She will sit calmly but doesnt like being held down which I suggested. They held her down and she became anxious and struggling so that they couldnt get the blood sample and had to stick her again. Which they did right in front of me which is poor. Most vets will take them in the back for blood work so the dog doesnt associate pain with the owner. Then as  I was about to leave and holding my dog the vet told her assistant to take the bandages off. I said dont worry about it. The vet looked at me and said " We cant have her leave with blood on her- its bad publicity" Literally yanked off the bandages and scrubbed her wounds with peroxide while she was in my arms after I asked them not to touch her. I was appalled. I asked when someone would call with the lab results and the vet said "you will come in Monday" I said I cant I work Monday. She repeated " you will come in Monday" and walked out. What the....?! My dog is a sweet italian greyhound. She came in wagging her tail and trying to play with the other dogs, she left barking and snarlng because she was so defensive . I dont believe this woman even likes animals. She definately doesnt know how to handle them. I dont usually write reviews but hope to prevent other animals from having such a bad experience. I left in tears.

The veterinarian initial assessment was that she was a very sick kitty, and advised me of this (the 27th). Understanding my family's needs, we decided to at least run blood work (that had to be sent out, overnight) we agreed to see exactly how far gone the liver damage was, and if my cat could be brought back to a healthy status and she would require the skill of a specialty vet in Orlando. She also did advise me that worst case scenario, the I have entire cost of rehabilitating the cat could be very expensive ($5000+), but respected my wishes to move forward this way. The cost of the office visit was $50, plus lab work ($180). She understood that my means had limitations, but never rudely or blatantly asked me what kind of care I could afford. The next morning, the vet herself called me to let me know that my cat was indeed in liver failure, and it would be best to euthanize her. She advised that this needed to be done sooner, rather than later, and with a heavy heart I made an appointment to bring her on that afternoon. During this time we had a family medical emergency, requiring my attention to be with my human family in the hospital. (My husband had appendicitis, and needed emergency surgery the evening if the 28th). I called the office, and they assured me that they would work with us whenever we could bring the cat in, and would even allow me to drop her off and retrieve her remains later for burial. I dropped my Cleo off the morning of the 29th, on my way into the hospital to be with my husband after his emergency surgery. I signed required documents (along with $46) to release them of liability and to allow the to put my Cleo to sleep. This was so very hard to do, as I had had her since I was a single girl, and she was our furry family member, that adored my children as if they were her own kittens. I have photos of my Cleo in the bassinet with my oldest and lying next to my youngest while I nursed her. The decision to put my Cleo to sleep was a very heavy one, but the best for her, as she was suffering greatly in silence, no longer able to control her bodily functions, with seizures being imminent. They released Cleo's sweetly wrapped body to my father for burial while my children were still at school, and I was with my husband in the hospital. The staff never judged me for my decision to be with my human family instead of with Cleo, and sent me nothing but well wishes for my husband as her recovered. Today in the mail I received a condolence card, signed by the office staff and veterinarian, which prompted me to write this review. I was treated with dignity and respect during a very difficult time for my family as a whole by this practice, and would highly recommend and use them myself in the future.

Just moved to the area and woke up this morning with a sick cat. Dr Ely's staff got him in as soon as I called (on a Saturday morning). I brought my cat's records with me and she was able to give him the shot he needed and took time to go over future medical treatment. She didn't push any treatment on me and told me to do some research on the med she suggested. Very happy with the service and will continue to take my pets to her. Cost for an office visit and shot was $75, about what we paid in Ohio.

Since I finally bought my own house I adopted a dog and a small kitten. The dog needed to be neutered and had some sort of skin condition and is super nervous. He received excellent care, his surgery was quick and he recovered well. Her suggestions for taking care of his anxiety have helped. She even checked his skin and dewormed the kitty for free! Super happy, and very affordable.

Dr. Ely and all her staff are very good with the animals and customers, responsive on the phone, and very professional and competent. We have also boarded our pets there on occasion.
