Emeralds performed this job as well as we think any company could. We have been through other remodeling jobs with other companies that turned out poorly but the job done by Emeralds was outstanding.
The bid process is extremely detailed and thorough. The pricing is on the high end but considering the quality and professionalism of the job done we wouldn't hesitate using them again in heartbeat for any medium to large remodeling job. After being through some bad remodeling experiences we had the utmost appreciation for how well our addition with Emerald's Contractors went. And we are very picky people.
Our job was complicated quite a bit by the fact that we added a pool and pool screen cage with another vendor simultaneously with the addition to our house. This required Emerald's to do a lot of coordination with the pool contractor to stage both the major and minor steps of each other's jobs accordingly. Emerald's managed this situation terrifically and made it all go smoother than we expected.
Emerald's Contractors uses very high quality sub-contractors. In fact we have used several of them myself, after the addition was done, for other work we needed done because we were so impressed. Some of the contractors that were stellar included the woodworking/cabinetry team, the person who did the outside stucco work, the plumber, electrical contractor, counter-top installers, roofing company and wood flooring contractors.
One of the best aspects of the job was how Emerald's deals with any new and/or unexpected changes along the way. And any decent size remodel job *will* have them. Emerald's was excellent of laying out several possible options, explaining clearly the cost and quality trade-offs for each option and then letting the customer decide what to do. In cases where we weren't sure what to do we frequently leveraged Emerald's vast experience in the field to get their recommendations. This helped us a ton.
The Project manager, Bill, was awesome. He was at the job site almost daily and was always accessible for questions/concerns throughout the project. He managed the sub-contractors and coordinated the day-to-day activities in a superb fashion which put our mind at ease very quickly into the project and gave us confidence that this project wasn't going to be one of those h***-stories you see too often in construction.
Bill's wife, Diane, who managed the office was also terrific and her accessibility and responsiveness to any kind of billing, schedule, paperwork, or any other general question we had just added to the professionalism of the company. Emerald's has all the bases covered for you. The communication during the project was top-notch.
The project took longer than originally planned but any of the delays were understandable, some were due to changes/upgrades we wanted to make, longer spacing between Emerald's and the pool and screen cage vendors that couldn't be avoided (permit delays, minor scheduling conflicts, etc.). We never once thought that Emerald's was doing any less than 100% effort to get the job done.
The owner, John, really is what attracted us to Emeralds at the beginning. We had him bid, a few years earlier, on a kitchen remodel. His price at that time was not within our budget (we paid for it dearly with a lower priced, poorer performing contractor) but we were so impressed with him at the time, with his great friendly personality, clear and thorough estimate, his communication skills, references he had and his can-do attitude that we had a permanent mental note of "next time we have to use Emerald's Contractors" imprinted on our brains.
One area of improvement that we communicated to Emerald's at the end of the project was that they needed to find a better tile team. Good tile work is hard to find, especially if you are as picky as we were and there was some re-work that needed to be done to make us happy. Emerald's agreed this could have been done better and he wasn't happy with how that went as well. I have learned that Emerald's no longer uses the tile team that they did when our project was done.
Overall, we would highly recommend Emerald's Contractors. In our experience we would be hard pressed to find a more professional, high quality, well-managed construction contractor than Emerald's. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to anyone.
