Cabinet Making
$5,700
Hung took our deposit of 1/2 of the cost and came out with his crew to remove cabinets.   Hung said he was worried they might break the granite countertop or backsplash during removal and my wife and I and Hong had a discussion about if we should hire a separate contractor to remove and install the granite counters. Hong's storefront display claimed they worked in granite. We were put off by the discussion, but let TT perform the work.  During removal, they broke multiple backsplashe pieces by carelessly removing them with a crowbar... This of course upset my wife and I.  There was additional discussion as to whether TT was going to replace these backsplashes, but we didn't get a solid impression that they were. After cabinets were removed, it took almost a month until the new cabinets were ready for installation.   I contacted Hung at least twice to check the status and attempt to ensure the specific design requests I had provided were being incorporated.  Hung blew me off claiming he was busy and we were "harassing" him with constant phone calls.  Finally, installation began and the cabinets were installed.  They looked good overall, but the glass window was installed with clear silicone in the back and looked unprofessional.  During cabinet install, there was tiling that needed to be accomplished on the floor and I had to run out to get grout.  Upon my return, Hung had already placed the cabinet over the tile area so I had to remove it myself to perform the tiling.  His actions were careless.  In addition, once the cabinets were in, the counter top had not been replaced.  Hung claimed the cost of the display window cabinet door would be extra, or that we should pay him extra.  He wanted an additional $450 for the single window cabinet.  We would not pay that amount and asked for the full costs of his labor and supplies so we could come up with an accurate cost.  We were willing to pay if he could show us his costs.  He would not provide a part/supply and labor estimate or list to us.  He claimed we would have to install the granite ourselves or get someone else to do it.  We withheld payment for the countertop until the job was complete.  Hung disputed his estimate claiming it didn't detail installation of the granite countertop and claimed he only had to install a countertop (meaning a composite countertop) and claimed he could take our granite countertop away. We went back and forth for over a week on 'extra" costs for the window cabinet and requests to complete the job.  Hung finally came an reinstalled the granite countertop and replaced the broken backsplashes.  We had to follow up with the undersink area that did not turn out right.  Instead of creating one long cabinet, he cut a hole through the two cabinets leaving a gap and leaving the area unuseable.  He failed to install shelving in one cabinet and after complaints, he installed pullout shelving as requested, but did not support the shelving and used light duty rails which has caused them to become unuseable only weeks after their installation.  The granite sealing at the seam (over the sink) was not smooth and will require re-sealing.  The sealant used along the backsplash has since dried and cracked creating a gap between the backsplash and wall.  He never reinstalled tile pieces removed along the wall.  The whole experience was a mess, unprofessional, and we felt like we were in a high pressure sales pitch where he tried to take advantage of us to increase his profits.  I followed up with him to ask him replace the light duty rails and fix the other issues but he simply offered to sell me parts so I could install heavy duty rails myself.  We would not use him again and are considering filing a small claim against him to cover the cost to complete repairs of the problems he created.  Our experience with TT Custom Cabinets was frustrating and disappointing.
