Brian was a delight to work with. He was very prompt in replying to any questions or requests during the project. The project was finished on time as promised. I had additional questions regarding other small projects I wanted to re-landscape after I had paid him for the original work. Brian was most prompt in answering those questions and offering suggestions without charging any additional fees. As Landscape Chairperson for my local HOA I had worked with Brian on several HOA projects and found his expertise and great customer service to be consistent and polite. My husband & I were delighted that he agreed to do our personal home and with the finished project he helped us create. I highly recommend him for any type of landscaping needs you may have.

Brain was great.  He came to our home before, during and after the project was completed and only charged for his services after everything was complete.  Most of the service providers Brian recommended were excellent (especially Independent Tree Service), though the company he recommended to remove our bamboo disappointed me.  I don't fault Brian for this, though, since finding any one willing to remove bamboo is a challenge.  And to Brian's credit, he tried to make things right when I complained to him about them.  Since the job was complete, I have contacted him via email with questions about some of our plants and he has gotten right back with me to offer suggestions and resources.
Bottom line: our yard looks 100% better.

He is knowledgeable, did extremely professional drawings, specced out all the plants to be used, and came out 3 or 4 times to check out the progress of the work being done by others. His price has also been reasonable.

It went very well, we are very pleased with the results.  He gave us detailed plans of the design with measurements, list of the plants.  Before he sent us the final drawings we went over them with him and he made changes that we had suggested.  We highly recommend him if you are looking into designing or re-designing your yard.

He came out and discussed the project. My only complaint is that it took some time for him to get back with me because he was inundated with phone calls. It took about 2 months for him to get me my plan. He did a good job and the price was decent, so I was happy.

Brian showed up promptly at the time we had scheduled. I asked him to walk with me around the house and told him what kind of plants my wife and I like, don't like, are having problems with, etc. He gave us a ton of great information regarding the care, pruning, watering, fertilizing, planting, etc about each flower/plant we discussed. He immediately pointed out several things I was doing wrong with regards to pruning and care of existing shrubs. He took his time with us and explained everything in a way that even a dunce like me could understand. The great thing about Brian is that he has a very good understanding from a science/biology background and he isn't just telling you to throw random plants in the ground like a lot of tyipcal landscapers do. Brian's approach is very consultative (which is fitting as he doesn't not do the actual landscaping, just design and consults and project management). I definitely plan on consulting him on a regular basis.
I would highly recommend Brian to anyone who is planning on doing landscaping.

Working with Brian was a fantastic experience.  He is extremely intelligent and professional.  He is a perfectionist who really loves what he does, and it shows.  He was very patient and accomodating to my busy schedule, and often met with me in the evening.  He really listened to what I wanted, and gave me an amazing design.  He helped to coordinate with the landscaper and irrigation provider as well.  They all worked together and the results were even better than I expected.

The landscaping plan was excellent and both my wife and I were satisfied with the plan. Brian also provides electronic copies (PDF) of the plans and full size drawings for use by landscapers, patio installers, hardscapers, irrigation etc.
However, Brian's involvement doesn't stop at delivery of the plans, he also provided the following valueable services:
Recommendations for landscape, irrigation, lighting, and patio installers
Job site review and consultation - he meets with and consults with the people working on your site to make sure they are properly installing everything to plan and stays involved right to the end of the job
Ongoing Advice - If you have a brown thumb like me, you need help when considering how to care for plants. Brian is always willing to provide assistance on how to care for and maintain plants. We are respectful of his time and try not to overdo it and use email so he can answer when convenient for him, but it's nice to have an expert resource who you can count on to answer questions that cannot easily be researched on the Internet.

We were able to move the fence of our townhome out a bit, extending our yard, and decided it was time to create a better living space outside. I'm a DIY girl, but recognized that I needed help and a good plan to make our nice outdoor space really wonderful. I hired Brian based on the rave reviews on Angie's list and I'm happy to add one more!  Brian's team contacted us soon after I sent an email inquiry. We quickly found a time to meet and Brian came out to our townhome to take a look at the space. Right away it was apparent that Brian is very well versed in plant culture, food and nature. He gave us advice on a few house plants in our first visit. We discussed that we wanted a hardscape pathway from our back patio to our detached garage and defined planting areas as well as a grassy expanse that our dog could run on. Brian asked if there were certain plants and features we wanted and asked for a few weeks to draw up plans. He came back with a beautiful plan that we liked, yet was a bit more than we needed, so after a revision, he worked with his recommended contractors (irrigation, bricklaying & landscaping) to put together an estimate which would be within our budget and sent these plans to us. This was before the holidays, and my husband & I got busy, and we didn't have a chance to meet with Brian to finalize until after the first of the year--he was super patient with us! We are about halfway through the implementation process and couldn't be more thrilled. Although we didn't hire his firm as general contractor (remember DIY girl?); he has been out a few times to ensure that all is going according to his plans. Brian has incredible vision, a deep knowledge of plants and unending patience with perhaps less than model clients. Highly recommend.

Brian is an extremely knowledgable landscaper and truly enjoys sharing his expertise with his clients.  He suggested I try to do as much on my own in order to save myself  money ..how rare is that?  He gave me names of products and reputable companies for fencing.  He was a pleasure to speak with and it is obvious that he really loves what he does.  Brian is very generous with his wealth of knowledge and has a understanding of plants that few people do. I would absolutely use him again once I begin the next stage of my project.

I needed a new fence, a new bench with a pergola and new pavers.  The fence was rotten and leaning and was held in place by a broom stick and 2x4's.  The pavers where uneven and dangerous to walk on.  I also needed a new wooded bench.  I found a fence builder on Angie's list that sounded really great (See the report on Redman Fencing), but Terri Redman stated he had nothing to do with pavers, he suggested I contact Brian Schatz, a landscape designer & arborist, that does project management.  He stated that his company had worked on many project with Mr. Schatz and that Mr.Schatz  would be able to handle the entire process for me.  Well, I thought if nothing else, I wont have to worry about making sure people show up on time and get the work done.  I figured the extra expense would probably be worth it, well it was much more, but it was the best decision I ever made.  I not only was free of worry and details of the project, but what I got in return, was a beautifully designed back yard that is truly an island of peace and calm in a hectic and busy world.

Brian met with me initially to find out what i was really wanting for my yard.  We discussed fences, pavers, some additionally landscaping to cover up muddy and unused area along the north wall, and a replacement for the rotten bench and pergola and eventually a dog grooming bench with a ramp.  I am totally blind and, Brian was sensitive to my needs.  He suggested using pavers as a guided walkway from the back door to the gate and also a path of pavers to the bench.  He also used his talents to design the placement of the pavers in such a way I would be able to tell when I reached the edge of the walk way.  He also made sure that some of the plants were aromatic so that I would able to appreciate the yard with more than one scent.  He told me it was a fulfilling challenge to design a yard with out relying totally on sight and it would encompass all the senses.

He was always in communication with me.  when ever a portion of the project was finished he would stop by and give me my own personal tour showing me what was done and vividly describing what was done, he was very considerate in that way.
I am definitely keeping him in mind for further projects if have any more.  He is a true artist, a kind sensitive person, who takes his clients wishes into consideration and has all portions of the protest under control.

Brian is very knowledgeable and helpful. He came to my house two days after I called him and advised me on how to get my lawn back into shape. Brian arrived exactly on time, was very friendly and very willing to share his vast knowledge. He has a passion for what he does and his willingness to share deserves special recognition from Angie's List.

Brian's advice saved me $1,600 that I was planning on spending. Instead of spending the money, he explained how I can rescue the plants that I already spent $1,500 to put in my yard.  Because he spent an hour with me, he didn't charge me. If he spent more time or prepared a design, he would have charged me. I will use his design service in the future because I know that money spent with Brian will be money saved on improperly designed landscaping.  Before you finalize your decision on a landscaper be sure call Brian Schatz and get his advice.

We moved into our new home a little over a year ago and wanted to make some significant changes to the landscaping.  We had several companies come out to discuss landscaping options with us and we knew that Brian was the right choice as soon as we met with him.   Brian's assistant, Nicole, is extremely professional, friendly and responsive.  Nicole provided us with a list of suggested plants, shrubs and trees and we narrowed it down to the plants that we wanted Brian to use in the design.  Brian then created a new landscape design for our front, side and back yard and the results are stunning! Brian is incredibly knowledgeable about plants, but also has an amazing talent for landscape design.  Brian is  also extremely helpful, providing valuable tips and advice throughout the entire process.  Brian definitely knows his stuff and we have learned so much from him, including pruning techniques and proper lawn fertilization.   The landscaping is now complete and Brian coordinated with the landscapers, providing a final approval before the plants were in the ground.  Our new yard is absolutely beautiful!  We are so incredibly pleased with the results.  The neighbors have commented on how wonderful it looks too.  We are convinced that we would have never achieved these results without Brian.  He was instrumental in making our yard look its best.  Hiring Brian was a great decision and we highly recommend him to anyone who wants a beautiful yard!!!

Installation of the brick pavers, gravel and plants went very well with very few minor glitches, such as not removing the driveway cement, and pvc pipe for irrigation and lighting was not laid under the pavers as discussed.  Also there was a lengthy wait for the plants.

We had already removed all the old shrubs which had been poorly maintained by the previous owner and were thorny, ugly, and overgrown. We wanted a garden with plants that were easy to maintain and native to Florida, were green year-round and flowered, and that would provide color and scent to attract birds and butterflies. Brian was wonderfully attentive to our desires, provided pictures and descriptions for the plants he suggested, and designed a garden that was exactly what we were hoping for. He supervised the excellent crew who planted the garden. Brian fee for the landscape design was $150. The crew’s fee was $850 which included new soil, mulch, the plants, and labor. Brian gave us detailed instructions on how to care for our new garden, and encouraged us to call him if we had any further questions. True to his word, he has been available to answer our subsequent questions. Furthermore, I am a nubie gardener, and he has offered me wonderful advice about the herb and vegetable garden I want to start in our backyard next year.

Brian showed up promptly early on a Friday morning. Spent a couple of hours with me. Provided excellent advice on plant selection and location and layout. Also spent time talking about proper maintenance techniques for other areas of my yard and all the mistakes that I and my weekly gardener have been making. Brian is unbelievably knowledgeable. I've spent two weeks pruning my scrubs the way Brian showed me and the yard is already looking significantly better. Also followed up visit with a detailed 2 page email covering all the topics we talked about as well as the names of the products he mentioned and research resources for me to use in the future.
