They were extremely expensive for what they did, that's why we haven't used them again. It was really expensive. I have had a lot more work than that done for a lot less money. The work they did was fine and they were not doing any trimming. It was a relatively small tree. The quality was fine. It was not a difficult job. I assumed they would grind the stump but they didn't. They were not forthcoming about that their exorbitant price would not include grinding that little tiny stump down. I don't remember but I assume they were there on time.
The only negative I saw was that I wish they would allow multiple coupons to be applied, but understand that they have fixed costs in their truck and other equipment that they have to cover. So, overall a good experience.
The actual tree removal went very smoothly and was completed within a day by a crew of three men. The clean-up was also very thorough. The stump grinder came about 3 days later to grind the remaining stump and roots. As anyone who has a large tree removed knows, the homeowner is left with a huge mound of wood chips to be removed. The tree removal company advises that the chips can be used as mulch around the house and garden. Not wanting to use the chips in this way, I hired someone to remove the chips ($200) but eventually he ran into hard wood and roots. I asked the company to come out and take a look at what was left and was originally told that it would cost another $450 to remove the remaining roots and take the stump to the level of the the rest of the lawn. Many months later, I was able to get another company representative to come out and agree that the area needed additional stump grinding which was done at their expense.
The reason for the "B" rating was the problem with the stump. Otherwise, I found this company to be very good and I would use them again but I don't think that the issue with the stump was handled well originally. I think that what to do with the stump is something that is generally not explained very clearly to homeowners.
I have only one criticism, and this involves scheduling. When I signed the contract, I was told the week during which the work would be performed & was told that the office would call me the day before. As much as I tried, it was impossible to hold open the entire week. They DID call the Friday before they were to arrive on Monday to do the job, but the call came 20 min. before closing time. I was out so only received a message. Monday afternoon was not possible for me. Inasmuch as the scheduling call came so late in the workday immediately prior, I was forced to leave a message for them on a Saturday. After rescheduling, the call to confirm the new date/start time came 25 min. before close of business on the day prior. I strongly suggest that the company give the customer more notice. After a 2 week wait, a 20 min. window to respond is hardly reasonable.
The trimming crew arrived as scheduled. They were very professional. All jobs done and clean up was complete. They took care that no fences or other areas were damaged.
