When Michael's initially came out to see our pool they suggested a fairly lengthy list of repairs. My husband declined this as he felt it was questionable that so many repairs were needed on a pool that appeared to work well. In the years that Michael's maintained the pool we managed without most of these suggested repairs.
On Thursday, 7/23/15 I received an email from Michael's after 3:00 AM. The email was labeled "Severe Scheduling Issues" and it had a handwritten PDF attached to it that said "Cancellation Notice." My first thought was how strange it was to receive something labeled in such a contradictory way. My second thought was that my weekly service was to have happened in 5 hours and instead we were being dropped with no notice or provocation on our part. Also, this has been a particularly rainy summer. Without even one week's notice in which to find a new cmpany I was concerned that we would have a green pool in no time at all.
We had always paid our bill promptly as Michael's had our credit card number on file. We hadn't done anythng to warrant being dropped in such an unprofessional manner and it is for this reason that my review of Michael's is so low.
Michael's note said that they had to fire two emloyees and it was impossible for them to meet our needs in the future. They said they were d*** their best to stay in business.
i wrote and said.I could have been flexible and worked with their schedule if I had received the courtesy of a phone call and 24 hours notice. I did not receive a response to this.
Fortunately I was able to quickly fnd a highly rated provider on Angie's List to replace Michael's. Happily enough this new firm provides more than just chemicals and checking the filter in their service, which also costs $5 less per month than Michaell's. They also brush the steps and edges of the pool too.
Michael's Pool Service provided me a quote some time ago and was able to come out within two days of my agreeing to it. That was really nice. The receptionist was friendly and easy to work with. The work appears to be of good quality. Everything was neatly put back together, and the sand was dumped in the area requested (they will not take the sand with them, so you have to find a place in your yard to dispose of it).
The Not so good:
I found the price quoted for the Pintair 200 Cartridge Filter at $587.25 was about $100 more than any place I could find the filter on my own. Being that I was in a bit of a rush, I did not question this at the time. The line item for labor was $150, but I look at it as $250 for labor since it appears the price of the filter was marked up. Maybe this is what their dealer charges them, in which case, I'd recommend they look around for another dealer with better prices.
Conclusion: I really like the service I got from Michael's and would use them again. The only thing I might do differently is take the time beforehand to research the price of parts before agreeing to a quote.
They also left me a quote for some other work they felt needed to be done (and probably should be rather soon). I was very pleased with the overall job. I look forward to working with Michael's company again.
if u have a man get hurt don't put your customers aside and forget them like they did me,My pool turned green with algee,
Why have a pool service if your going to have a duck pond to look at,i paid my bills, and got lousy service not a happy camper,
you wood think they wood of said sorry for the last few months of no service lets find a solution about lowering the cost of your pool pump motor but not Mikes Pool service will not deal with them again
The rep from Michael's quoted me a total of $347 which included the cost of the part (with a 1-year warranty), additional chemicals for the pool and labor to replace the part. I also received a 20% discount as a member of Angie's list. The repair was made within 24 hours and the rep followed-up the day after the repair was made to ensure the chlorine generator was working properly and the pool chemicals were in balance.
A a result of the service I received from Michael's Pool Service, I fired the other company I had been using to service my pool. Michael's only provides full-service pool maintenance and I have salt water pool that doesn't require weekly attention so I am now maintaining the pool myself. The rep from Michael's took the time to explain to me (a first time pool owner) how easy it is to maintain a salt water pool. He could have easily taken advantage of my inexperience and encouraged me to go with a full-service pool maintenance plan but he didn't. To that end, if I ever need any kind of pool repairs again, Michael's Pool Service would be the first place I would call. They have earned my trust.
Not quite sure how to grade this company as they went from A+ to F in the past 6 months.
