I've used Lightning Aluminum for several projects on the patio, installing dog doors, installing kick plates around the bottom of the entire enclosure and doing a rescreen from a termite tenting job. I usually have the same tech come out, he was quick and professional. He had the job done right the first time and even was careful about watching out for my dogs while there. These guys are my go to for the patio enclosure.

Lightning was hired as a sub contractor by Larsons Pool and Spa. They were the first on the job removing my old pool enclosure. They arrived on the day requested, and within 6 hours had the entire enclosure taken apart, loaded up and removed from the site. The day after the pool was completed, they came to begin constructing the new enclosure. All materials were delivered and construction began the following day. The guys were very pleasant, and answered our many questions. The entire job took three full days as there were only two men working. We were told the entire job would take 1 1/2 days.

The insulated roof was installed the first day. They cut and assembled all the aluminum on site and built the roof beams on the ground. The side walls were put up and screened first, the roof beams were put up the next day and screened. All the finishing touches and caulking was completed.

I was told everything would be cleaned up and we would never know they had been there. When everything was done, they used a high powered leaf blower to blow all the debris and all the scraps of aluminum and screening material was picked up.

The problem I had with this was 3 fold. I had a new deck built with concrete pavers. The pavers were just installed and sanded. The blower used to clean up removed a great deal of sand, and also left plenty of gaps between the pavers for tiny aluminum shavings to become embedded. I spent several evenings with a tiny pick and a little trash can picking hundreds of very sharp curled up coils of aluminum shavings that could have worked like splinters in bare feet around the pool. While I got most of them, I am still finding bits of aluminum in the sand. I'm not sure if there is any way to prevent this issue with pavers, but a tarp or plastic sheet may have helped in the drilling and cutting process. I have also heard this is not an uncommon issue in drilling screws into aluminum. It was not a huge problem, just more of an inconvenience in the cleanup for me and concern for young toes. I am writing this here, but did not really make a big issue of it to the company.

There was a small leak in the end of one of the gutters that are attached to the downspout. We did not see it, but heard it dripping after the first heavy rain. I called John, the owner and explained the issue. He sent someone out the following day and they caulked around the entire gutter end cap. It rained again that evening, and the leak did not occur again, so hopefully that will not be a problem again.

While all these issues seem very minor, mentioning them may help prevent them on the next job.

Overall, I am more than happy with my new screen enclosure. It looks beautiful, it is very well built and I am sure it will withstand the test of time and weather for many years to come.

He came out and gave us a lot of promises. We wanted a screen room put on the back of our house. We wanted something a little different; we wanted the grass to be left out back because we have animals. We were concerned about the water built up in the back and he provided us with some water drainage. The drainage system does not work; we now have a lake in the back yard when it rains. We had leakage in the room as well. When we called them to talk to them about it they tried to blame it on the people who did our roofs.  We had them come out and look at it; they discovered it was their fault. They finally fixed it the third time they came out. Their attitude about this was poor and they were pricey as well. We will never do work with them again.

The items below were things that the pool company had to come back and fix. The beams from existing patio were removed by Lightning Alumium and they left big chunks of the patio missing from where the support brackets were. There were very sharp pieces of metal left sticking out of the floor of the patio which was a serious safety issue. The deco drain was damaged in two areas. They cracked and broke one of the travertine pavers. There are now cracks in the ceiling of our patio that weren't there before. I watched them try to kick one of the support beams down rather that cut through it. They left oil stains on a couple pavers. The thresh hold on the bottom of the screen doors was not sealed. The door sweep does not seal the bottom of the doors. The BIG issue I had with them is when I caught one of their workers urinating on my house and confronted him. I found after they left, they urinated on the other side of my house, all over my new pool heat pump. Very unprofessional! This was the subcontractor for Challenger Pools, who I sent an email to informing them of the incident but received nothing from either company. Needless to say, I would never recommend either company.

This company was wonderful. John came out to give me an estimate. He was on time, professional, and quoted me the price while he was there. We have an HOA and Lightning Aluminum worked with us while we waited for written approval. They provided the information for the HOA including a written description and drawings. I needed to change dates( waiting on the approval), but they had no problem with that. Once my written approval came in, they scheduled the footer within 2 days. They stayed in contact and scheduled the screen installation. They showed up when they said they would and completed the job in a timely manner. They cleaned up, left no debris. We have a couple of leaks in the new gutters, but that is a minor adjustment and I am making the review knowing that they will be out to fix the gutters. They do not require money in advance, and the price quoted is what they charged. Adequate materials were ordered and they were delivered to the back of the house. There were no problems dealing with this company. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

They were very good and did a nice job. We had a tiled patio at the back of the house with nothing on it so we needed a screened room. They had a good rating so we used them. They were very professional and did a really nice job. There was another company which was slightly less expensive but they were kind of a one guy operation. They had only one workman on the site who informed us that he would build the whole thing himself but this firm had 3-4 workmen so it went quickly but scheduling was the only thing that we would have preferred to be a little different. If all the four of them had come first thing in the morning they could have built the whole screen room in one day; it was only ten by fourteen which is not really very big. The first day they did not really show up until noon so they couldn't finish it so they came back the next day. Although we were really happy with the work they did. They were very good and very professional. It was not that much of a big deal but I would have preferred them to have come and do the job in one day. They were fairly priced and were here when they said they would be here.

I contracted them on 3/15/2012 to install a 10 x 16 concrete patio with decco drain. Install a 10 x 16 x 10 screen room with super gutter hip gable style roof with 10 feet high walls. After severall calls that were never returned wondering when they were going to start the project the finally showed and finished it on 5/10/2012. Three weeks later one of the straps on the enclosure has broken off and most of the dirt has washed away under the concrete patio. I called them on 6/4/2012 and left a message and no call was returned. I called again on 6/18/2012 and actually spoke with someone who said she had the work order and someone will be out here to fix it. On 6/25/2012 still not fixed so I called again and spoke with the owner J. Foens who assured me that someone would be out here that week to fix the problems and had excuses as to why they haven't been out here yet due to him being on vacation. On the evening of 6/29/2012 I called them again due to it still not being fixed and she said she will have someone call me. No one did to this point and it's still not fixed and it's now 7/1/2012. I would stay far away from this company, their customer service is nonexistent and they don't follow through on what they promise. I would not recommend this company to anyone nor would I ever use them again.

"First of all, we gave the member a free estimate on 3/15/12 for $3100. He did not e-mail a signed proposal back to us for days (3/19/12); after agreeing to a discounted price of $2945. We immediately sent off for SITE SPECIFIC ENGINEERING. Once this was received (along with the survey and county required NOC), we immediately applied for the permit (on 3/28/12). After waiting 5 weeks, the permit came ready (5/1/12) and the customer called to ask when we could start. We had the concrete dug out; termite sprayed, pre-inspected, and poured; then built the screen room and got our final inspection. On 6/11 our receptionist talked to the customer and made a work order for his miscellaneous repair (a broken bolt caused a cable to detach). As a side note, the cable we installed was NOT a required engineering component, we just like to over-build many of our enclosures. Therefore, it had NOTHING to do with the engineering design, building code requirements or inspection result. Due to numerous storms and heavy rains, then a pre-planned summer vacation for the kids, their repair was not completed as quickly as usual (21 days). I DO ADMIT we usually take care of any repairs within one business week, however, this was an odd/stormy/busy time, and luckily, the items did not affect their enclosure usage what-so-ever. Quite a few of these days were completely rained out, which meant we could not work (remember Tropical Storm Debbie, which flooded Tampa?!?!). On Friday 7/30/12, at 3:45pm, the customer called, and after cursing and yelling at our receptionist, he threatened to SUE if the bolt/cable was not taken care of THAT EVENING or the following day (Saturday). On Monday 7/2/12 the business owner called the customer, spoke with his wife, and told her that he would be coming out personally to take care of the issue, within the next few hours. Upon arriving, the customer’s wife was very rude and demanded that we install more dirt and sod around their concrete slab, by the following day (7/3/12) or else THEY WOULD SUE. Yep, there was that wonderful threat again.. While this is NOT our responsibility OR a part of the contract, we agreed to do the work, free of charge, on Wednesday 7/4/12, in hopes of resolving the matter FOR GOOD. If I have any additional comments, I would tell everyone to stay FAR away from this customer. Their integrity is non-existent and they love to threaten you with law suit after law suit. I would not recommend this customer to anyone nor would I ever work for them again."

They installed the screen room in a day and a half. It looked beautiful from the inside. When it rained though, the room leaked water at multiple seams where the composite panels abutted one another, along the side of the building in several places, and along the eave. The gutters leaked and water poured down behind the gutters instead of into the gutters. When you look at the roof of the screen room from the outside, it slants to the left, causing the water to run down the the inside walls of the screen room and prevents the water from running down the gutter to the downspouts. The addition gutter that they installed was too short on both ends where it doesn't go all the way out to the edge of the roof on one side (it is about one foot too short) and the other end doesn't empty onto the screen room roof, but pours onto the ground in front of the screen room. The right side of the roof has no gutter at all and water pours into room. As a result, when it rains, the room floods with water. When I called to report the problems, I would either get the answering machine or I would leave a message with the secretary. The company would not return my phone calls. After continuing to call the company for two months, I happened to "catch" Johnny and asked him to address the problems. He told me that the reason the seams were leaking was because the gutters were not draining due to debris. He did send someone out to retape the seams and silicone the gutters. There was no debris in the gutters. When it rained again, I still had all of the same leaks except that the seams were only leaking on the outside of the enclosure. I started calling again, over and over, leaving messages and talking to the secretary. She would set up an appointment for someone to come out and no one would show up. Three months later, after several no shows and multiple phone calls, Randy and another man came out and spent about 40 minutes installing a flange to divert water away from the wall and sealant where the room abutts the building. I still continue to have leaks and flooding into the room. Over the past two months, I have made several attempts at trying to get Johhny to come out and repair the problems. If I happen to get a real person to talk to, they promise to come out to make repairs but never show up. They do not respond to messages left on their machine.

"I believe this leaking issue has been resolved, after MANY tries. We sent 4 different and experienced men out to take care of this issue, each time when it continued to leak we would make an additional work order. We didn’t intentionally ignore the requests of Ms. (Member), and it is VERY unusual to have frequent leaking. After our fifth attempt now, I believe the leaking should stop, permanently. Unfortunately, it had to do with the roofing and gutters, and now it should be fixed (hopefully!). We are SO SORRY for her inconvenience, but we never have leaks that are this difficult to fix and this was a very unusual experience for us all. In our opinion, this screen enclosure was installed perfectly, and was engineered correctly and passed all county building inspections. Some times leaks are hard to fix, especially when they travel to different spots, as water will do. We sent MANY people out to fix her issue, each time, and I’m sorry that it was hard to fix, but it was also timely to send out so many different and experienced men out to alleviate the issue. We will continue efforts if any problems recur. We will definitely be out if any issue persists, we have a standard one year installation warranty, and we do complete our work orders and service requests. Again, I can’t apologize enough for her inconvenience."

The service we received from start to finish was exceptional. The owner, John, came to our home to look at the area, and measured and drew the area on an engineering chart. He took the time to listen to us, and what we wanted, and gave us some really good ideas about door placement, height, drainage, and aesthetic properties. He was very prompt in returning to provide schematics and his plans for us. He and his workers were very professional and hard working. They explained what they were doing, and kept us "in the loop" throughout the process, making sure the placement for doors and other items were acceptable, and were very flexible in making changes to meet our needs. The screened-in enclosure came out beautifully, and the work team left the work space, our yard (used to haul out debris), and pool area immaculate. The work was completed a day early, which was great, but not a surprise seeing how hard the team worked.
