All Greentek employees must pass an extensive background investigation, including Credt history, random annual drug screening as well as annual recurrent training. I have a half acre conservation lot that was taking a turn for the worse. Relocating recently from Northeast US, I was totally unaware of what lawn care in FL entails. Steve took time to educate me about the grass and its needs for ongoing care. He helped me set up the irrigation timers, check the functioning and document the zones. Excellent job and provided far more service and education than what I expected. Personable, thorough and dedicated a lot of time to my service call to explain everything entailed in the service package, how and why it would be done. Also gave me suggestions for ongoing maintenance and pest prevention internally and externally. On an added note, I was also having another unrelated problem at my house which he helped me diagnose and address in about 2 minutes. HIGHLY recommend on the basis of the customer service and attention provided. Will update on results with the lawn health and appearance.

They came out  for an estimate. However, they did not want to provide the service as the grass was not in good shape and they have their standard to start the process (75% or better).   Unfortunately for us we had to select other service company for cover for it until we reach their standard.  
Greentek is great and we used them before we rent the house. I only expected them to help us further and try to assist us.. anyway I understand they have to follow their standard.

I am completely at a loss for words on how the owner James just treated me.  I have been a customer of theirs for 13 years.  We brought them to our new neighborhood in 2004 when we moved from our other location which they treated since 2001.  We have referred them so much business it's not even funny.  They now do most of our neighborhood.  Let's be clear, their outside lawn service is great, my lawn usually looks top notch.  Recently though we have been getting ants extremely bad since about year now.  Ryan (the service tech) has come out multiple times and sprayed but the ants just keep coming back and they die all over the house.  It makes vacuuming a daily chore twice a day.  Obviously they were not treating inside the walls where the ants were so the nests were not dying off.  I called them to come back out and explained the problem to them and they said they would.  When I called the owner today to discuss why they have not come out, he told me Ryan had come.  I informed him I was home and he didn't ask to come inside.  I work from home so I am always home.  Long story short when I informed him that I was going to go with another company to come in and dust inside the walls, etc to make sure the ants are gone he got extremely upset and acted like a child.  Completely unprofessional.  I said I would still like to keep my lawn service like I had originally with them and I didn't mind paying a little extra since I wasn't getting the package price anymore.  He said it doesn't matter and I quote "We are not going to do it anymore!" in the tone of a little kid and proceeded to hang up on me.  
If they treat a customer who has been with them 13 years and referred tons of business to them this way, I highly advise you to NOT do business with this company.  I will gladly take my business and my money elsewhere where it is welcomed and appreciated.  
James, I will also be copying this letter to everyone of my neighbors to let them know how you treat long term customers.  You should be ashamed of yourself and do a little growing up.

Excellent customer service all around. I call when I have questions and they always answer promptly. Same guys always come out to do the treatments so they know what was done and what the lawn needs. I could not be happier with their service and highly recommend them, they are friendly and wil give you RESULTS.

We had another lawn Fertilization & Treatment service that managed to completely ruin our Zoysia turf in the back yard, and the new St. Augustine in the front yard. We were recommended to GreenTek by a neighbor who has one of the nicest lawns in our neighborhood.
Steve from Greentek has been treating our lawn for almost a year, and has made miraculous strides is getting our lawn back to it's former glory.
We are very happy with Steve's work, and always communicates about weeds and what he is putting down.

When we first moved into our home, we started to see a lot of insects and then had an Asian roach infestation.  After several months of treatment from Greentek, the roaches were gone and (knock on wood) have not returned in a year. At the time, the technician did not feel he needed to come out repeatedly to treat for the roaches and that they would die in time. That said, he did come out every time we called for service, and they did after several months die.

While we were happy with the lawn care for more than two years, I was a bit taken aback by the owners demeanor when we decided not to continue the care.  I told him I'd decided not to continue the service.  Lawn fertilizing is a contentious issue in our community where the phosphate runoff is a major pollutant in our bay.  And then there is the issue of the cost ($540/yr).  I did not give him a reason for discontinuing, and just asked politely to stop the service.  He agreed, that was it.  Then, after talking to my husband about it, we decided to keep the service in order to not have to worry about the lawn, and two days later I called up the company, told their bookkeeper we'd had a change of position, and asked her to re-instate the service.  There had been a continuing credit on the invoices that had all of a sudden disappeared two months ago, and I asked her about that credit.  The bookkeeper said all the records had been expunged from their computer and so she could not tell me anything.  I told her I had the invoices at hand and would be glad to go over them with her.  She asked if I could fax them, I suggested instead that I could scan and email them (my fax machine is a printer but I don't use it for faxing and the phone outlet is on the other side of the house).  She said that she did not have an email address.  I took her comment to be genuine and suggested she should get one (in this day and age) because I could, for instance, easily send them to her that way.  I told her I would make copies of my invoices to snail-mail her so she could look at the questionable credit and that we could talk Monday.  Our conversation had been cordial and business-like. 

Today is Monday so I called Greentek.  The owner, James Carey, answered the phone.  When I told him I had the invoices and wanted to send them he told me he'd decided that he'd rather not have my business after all the bother I'd caused his bookkeeper.  I hung up the phone, quite stung.  When I found his email address, I emailed him to alert him that his bookkeeper had lied, something I thought he should know if he didn't , and then I questioned what he bragged about on his web site: "I believe the quality of a service to its customer should be a company's number one priority".  In response, he sent me this email:

"Our service was nothing but examplary with your account.  YOU called in a mysterious way, not advising why, to cancel your service. I asked several probing questions to find the reason for cancellation, you only replied you "did not feel you needed a service this time of year".  According to you, your husband advised you you made a mistake and to reestablish the account with us.  You called very snooty advising you had a credit balance, which you had the invoices in your hand, if you took a second to read it you would understand  infact you did not have a credit balance. The decision not to reinstate your account was mine and mine alone.  A certain degree a trust is necessary in order to maintain a viable service.  After our conversation I was wary as to your motivation.  Patty does not have an email account, this account goes to me, as I was not in on Friday your email would not have been returned or found at all due to the volume of spam we receive. I too am a member of Angies list.  The list is not a place to try to get even or air dirty laundry.  If you give a full detailed history of what happened during our encounter I will have no problem with that.  If, however, you try to damage our reputation with unfair accusation I will not only contact Angies list for a retraction but contact our Attorney to recover from you, any damage done from you erronious commets. Yes, I have done so in the past and WON! Thanks! James Carey MVP"

There you have it.  After more than two years of using his company (I have never met him, this is a rental property), paying him promptly, and letting him carry a $45 credit, he says I was "mysterious", "snooty", I have "motivations" (whatever that means), and he thinks that our disagreements are "dirty laundry".  While Greentek is very good with bugs in lawns, James Carey seems to have little understanding that business is about KEEPING customers not insulting them or threatening them with lawsuits.  I will never use his service again and I was and am very taken aback by his accusatory demeanor.  I will gladly take my $540/year elsewhere.  And he can keep the $45, if that's what he's so disgruntled about.  Jeez, Louise.  You'd think it was a million $$$s.

They claim that we have a contract, but I never signed anything. They said that because of the contract, I have to pay $220 to terminate my contract with them. I don't think I should have to pay any termination fee, since I never signed a contract. I am happy to pay for the last treatment, but beyond that, any charges are unreasonable.
