I have been waiting since late May 2013 for a call back and some proposed resolution from the owner after paying more than $3,445.00 in direct costs to secure molded carpet, leather upholstery, and front seat heaters in my SUV (with $525 of this for extra rental days due to repeated job delays and for car detailing to buff out some of the damage the shop caused to my vehicle's new paint job). I have to get a body shop quote for other damage, so these costs may escalate (if the shop doesn't make good on its commitment to pay for the repairs). Kudos to the shop for at least saying they'd cover it...
I secured competitive quotes. The competition could and would have done everything but the seat heaters for less than $1,500 (a verifiable fact). The seat heaters may have added $600 to the job, bringing the total to $2,100. Even with a rental car, I'd have been out the door for less than $2,250. So I've essentially paid $1,195 extra for poor workmanship, car rental costs, and detailing costs all attributed to shop mishaps.
The problems started because the shop tried to install rolled carpet instead of high-end molded carpet. Then they tried to use one heater that was in inventory and one new heater and the two didn't match. Then they discovered the carpet was the wrong color. Then they installed the rolled carpet so terribly that there was no way that, upon seeing it, I could opt to settle for that carpet (which I might have done if the installation had looked professional. They front seats look pretty good at this point but, on closer examination, they have faulty stitching and some poorly fitted areas. The back carpet installation and back seat upholstery job look pretty bad and the headrests are even worse.
The upholstery and carpet bulging problems are so visible/obvious that they were pointed out by a business associate without prompting.
The carpet has a hole in it near the center console on the passenger side.
The seat heater buttons were installed in an unauthorized area and were installed off center. The heater buttons still need to be properly aligned.
Most of the trim was improperly reinstalled and some screws and clips were/are broken. That is, the trim was put back in such a haphazard manner that parts are popping off, screws are stripped, and one clip is black instead of beige. The trim needs to be rechecked, properly placed, and properly secured throughout.
The wiring for the heaters wasn't tied down, and it's visibly hanging below the seats.
Two seemingly important electric wires showed up in the glove compartment, unidentified.
The back seats, back-seat headrests, and carpet and trim in the utility area need rework. Some of the leather was cut and sewn improperly, e.g., the areas around the seat clips and seat pulls, and the carpet/upholstery junction.
Some of the carpet in the far back is strangely discolored at the "wheel well" area, as if it was overheated and cooked during installation.
The shop damage to the exterior of the vehicle has yet to be repaired. The vehicle incurred minor paint damage from a razor left on the hood in the blazing sun after a rain storm and from something that scraped the back driver's-side fender.
I'm still waiting for the paperwork on the leather and seat heaters (to ensure they're new and so I have the warranties in hand).
I'm still waiting for assurances that the right heater and leather installations were done so the leather seats don't cook when I turn on the heater.
I've yet to be reimbursed for my extra car rental fees (amounting to more than $220) because of delays in getting the work completed.
And more.
I have been courteously asking for call and proposed remedies to avoid legal escalation and a letter to the Better Business Bureau.
I have yet to receive a call, let alone a proposed solution and timeframe.
This is unfortunate because Classic Auto seemed so reputable when I first visited them.
