Had a center drain problem after refinish. Bill and his crew came back out and took care of problem
I hired Bill's Pool Repair Inc. based on positive reviews from Angie''s list to resurface and retile our pool and spa, and paint the surrounding cement pool deck. Since there are no issues with the tile and deck, this summary will be with respect to the pool resurfacing.
After resurfacing the pool with pebble finish (called Stonescape), but prior to filling it with water, I noticed imperfections throughout the pool, and pointed out the odd markings to Bill (owner of Bill's Pool Repair, Inc.). He explained that it was the bonding agent and that it would disappear after the curing time (approx. 30 days). I was given instructions to brush and backflush the pool surface daily, which I did. In fact, since this is a second home that we do not reside in, I drove approximately 1.5 hours (round trip) every day to ensure that I brushed and backflushed. I also followed the instructions to start and maintain the pool chemistry by taking periodic trips with pool water samples to the local Pinch A Penny and purchasing and adding the proper chemicals.
After contacting Bill with our dissatisfaction within 30 days of the initial work, Bill came out to look and then drained the pool and acid washed it because he agreed that the markings were not normal. This was the second acid wash. (Once was normal protocol before filling the pool). The second acid wash required a second draining of the pool water with a refill to follow. We were hopeful that the pool would look beautiful as promised.
Within a week, the pool markings were worse than ever. There was now a prominent white pasty material covering most of the pool surface. I contacted Bill again and informed him of the situation. He and an employee came back out and drained the pool a third time and acid washed it again. Bill's employee confided to me that this happens with about 50% of the pools they resurface with with Stonescape and that this last acid wash would fix the problem. In fact, his employee mentioned that they had visited another pool that same day that had a similar situation. The employee also told me that I should be able to go to a normal pool maintenance schedule after this last acid washing. After filling the pool, it looked wonderful.
Within a couple of weeks, I noticed the pool starting to show some of the same markings from before. By the third week, the white haze that was evident from the past was prominent once again. By this time, I started to think that this was a craftsmanship issue. I contacted Bill, and he/his company essentially said that it was my problem now and there was nothing else they could do. Frustrated, I contacted the pebble manufacturer who came out to my property and said that the white areas were concrete residue that would fade if I kept the pool acidic and brushed often. He refused to offer any additional assistance including commenting on craftsmanship.
I should mention that all the while, I have been going to the local Pinch A Penny with water samples and telling them my story. They have been helpful with giving me different idea on additives, including Stain Removers and Metal Eliminators. However, nothing has worked thus far. I finally decided to contact a professional pool service company. A representative from the company said that the problem was due to craftsmanship and that they would not work on the pool due to liability issues.
I have spent spent lots of money (every pool fill was approximately $100 and the start up chemical purchase was almost the same), and many hours trying to fix a problem that, according to the pool service representative, I cannot not fix. It appears that my only option is to have the pool resurfaced. Unfortunately, Bill 's Pool Repair, Inc. has chosen not to correct the problem so I am left with no option but to take this matter to the courts.
"The member did not follow the 28 day instructions. He says he took care of pool every day for the first 28 days. Well, he work up north where he has a office. I would call him at this office & tell him that the white film came back. I acid washed his pool 4 times at my cost of $175 each time. I told him to get a pool service for first 4 weeks. He said NO. I tried to work with him but he is his own word enemy."
Upon Bill's arrival he quickly measured the pool and evaluated the condition. Due to the pool sitting for a year in a foreclosure condition the pool finish was poor. He provided an estimate on the spot and pulled out a box of tile samples and a finish brochure. He left both with me to decide. At that point I had not decided to use Bill's Pool Repair, but he left the brochures and samples anyway.
I called and left a message again that I was interested in hiring them for the job. My call was again returned promptly. Bill provided available dates for me to choose and scheduled me in. I learned from Bill that his wife runs the back office and handles the calls. She was very pleasant on the phone both for the original call and the appointment reschedule.
The crew arrived with Bill on the scheduled date/time to install the new tile first. They returned a few days later to refinish the pool. Now, I've been in the construction business since 1981 and have had my dealings with many pool refinishers and they weren't good ones, but Bill throws to the wind any concerns one might have. Once completed I was left with the absolute best finish I have ever seen on any pool new or old. I was doubtful at first I'll admit. Even my neighbors came over and said and quot;Wowand quot; after looking at the finish. It's difficult to explain but the finished product Bill delivered I don't believe can be beat by anyone. And I've seen hundreds of new and refinished pools.
The crew cleaned everything up at the end of each day and washed down the area. That is a nice finish to the job.
Bill doesn't take any money prior to the work being completed. He finishes and you pay him. All I can say is if you don't use Bill you'll most likely get a second rate finish. I know that's a strong statement, but I'm still in awe at the final product. Everyone knows I'm extremely picky. Everything has to be perfect for me. Another neighbor down the street stopped by to ask me how they did. After showing them his work they said their decision is made. They stopped by the next day and told me they already called him.
Bill's Pool Repair has been in the business 30+ years and he is on every job. His workers all have years of pool finishing and tile experience. My recommendation is to give Bill a call. You'll be glad you did.
The 5 person team just left and I am thrilled. They were professional, most appropriate in their conversations, actually arrived a little early to do the work (all 3 days) and completely cleaned up the work area each day. Bill left a complete explanation of what needed to be done to the pool over the next week or so (wiping down the walls, when to add chemicals, procedure for filling the pool so as not to create any scratches in the new marcite, etc.).
I was very impressed with both Bill and his crew...they did an outstanding job. THANKS Bill ! !
It was smooth sailing all the way through. We liked Bill from the start. He was very prompt, communicated very well, followed through and met every deadline so as to stay on schedule, and orchestrated with the porch repair company to manage scheduling conflicts. He added a ramp to make it handicap accessible, and made it match the pool so it's not obvious, and tore out existing and unusable railing that cluttered the area needlessly. We would most definitely use again and highly recommend. Bill is the best!!!!
