I would NOT recommend this tile contractor again. Very unreliable, doesn't have a very good work ethic. Don't expect him to do anything "outside his box".
Description of Work: We had a complete condominium remodel, using Flooring America for the flooring, assigning AYJ Tile for the tile work. Aramis Gutierrez, the owner of AYJ tile was assigned to do our two bathroom floors, kitchen, and shower. He showed up on time the first day, took a look at the shower and explained he didn't do framing. He had to reschedule for another time and told us what needed to be done before he came back. He sent someone else back the next day, since we hadn't had time to get the framing done yet, was upset because we caused him problems with his work schedule. Flooring America was surprised that the tile quote did not include framing, as they told us all of their other tile setters did their own framing. Since we are new to this, we had no idea, relying on the "professionals" to come in and do the work they were paid to do. After this, Aramis was very had to get hold of, not showing up several different days he scheduled to be there. Since this is a vacant property, every time he told me someone would be there to work, I would have to get off work and sit there waiting for him to show up. After a couple times of waiting hours and no one showed, I finally told him to call me and I would meet the worker there. We would agree on 8:30, and when I arrived at 8:25, the worker was angry because I was "late", he being told to be there at 8:00. His flooring work was fine, no real problems. Expect him to leave a mess. Didn't clean up after himself. There were piles of dried grout in the middle of the floor that had to be scraped before other types of flooring (wood) were placed The shower had several places where grout was forgotten. My husband figured out how to mix the grout and fixed it himself. It was easier than trying to get him back out. We had one carpeted room that had sheets on the floor to protect the carpet. There was a sign on the door stating to be careful not to get the lite beige carpet dirty. No one needed to be in the room, we were using it for storage. When they put tile up to the carpet threshhold, they got brown grout all over the entry into the room on the carpet. Their solution was to use a razorblade to scrape it off. Some came off, along with the top of the carpet. Now we have fuzzy carpet.
