HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE; NEVER USE THIS COMPANY, IF THEY ARE EVEN STILL IN BUSINESS. In March, 2014, I was in FL., helping my 90-yr young mother sell her house, in order to move into my IL home. I contacted several movers and received estimates. I decided on American Van Lines East because the salesman, Roy, was very convincing and professional. Theirs was not the lowest or highest bid, but I felt the best company. I checked with the state and their credentials/license/insurance were all in order. They requested a substantial deposit, which we paid, via a credit card (thank goodness). I gave a tentative moving date, based on the fact that we needed to vacate the house upon closing. When it came time that I had an actual closing date, I called Roy. To my surprise, I heard a recording stating that the phone number I'd called had been disconnected....no further information was available. I had 3 other numbers, all had the same recording. The movers were located in Tampa, a 2 hour drive (one-way) from Mom's house. I had no way of driving over to the offices in Tampa, to find out what might be going on. After two days of phone calls and nothing but the above "disconnect" response, I decided that I'd better call Visa, to dispute the $850 deposit. The Visa agent also tried all of the numbers & agreed, something was wrong. I asked the Tampa police dept to please do a drive by to see if anyone was at the Tampa address I was given. They refused to do this. I had no way to verify that the company was still in business. Their state license was still in effect and their website was up, but I never could get through on the phones and the emails I sent went unanswered. Visa agreed that the deposit would be refunded to my Mom. We were very lucky that we didn't issue a check. Repeated attempts to reach this company failed. I ended up having to hire another mover (which was a very happy experience and I'd highly recommend Arpin Movers, FL. The tentative date I'd given the bad movers was May 15, 2014. On May 14th, I received a call from a woman stating she was confirming our move for the 15th. I told her that our move already took place, and that American Van Lines East had been unreachable. She insisted that I had a move scheduled for the next day, because my salesman, Roy, told her to call. This was the only communication I had with the company and the woman was very rude. I finally hung up. AVOID STRESS, DISAPPOINTMENT AND FINANCIAL LOSS.....DO NOT USE THIS MOVER. We were lucky, you might not be. AMERICAN VAN LINES EAST 9524 NORTH TRASK ST. Description of Work: After checking with the Better Business Bureau and the State of FL to verify license and complaint info on this company, I decided to hire them to move my 90-year young mothers personal items to my home in IL. She only needed to take a few things as she was moving into our home. THE PROVIDED SOLD ME and we gave them a deposit....SADLY, NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN AND WAS UNABLE TO CONTACT THEM...SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFO
