Once we got situated, I was told that they would be here on the 25th of Nov. The materials were delivered, but no workers showed up. I had to call the company rep, who told me that they didn't have a dumpster. He didn't explain why no one had contacted me to warn me of the delay.
Workers showed up on the 27th. Workers were great! Got right to work. Were polite. Put up with me getting all up in their business with great patience. (My husband is in Afghanistan and Skype's in to see how things are going. He also LOVES photos!!) One of the guys took my phone, with hubby, and showed him what was going on all over the roof.
It was a WINDY day and when I expressed concern about trash blowing all over and into the neighbors yard, they started cleaning up as they went along. Maybe not as efficient, but they were very responsive, in great contrast to their management.
Eventually their crew chief, Angel, showed up with a random female and another man. The woman told me that Angel owned the company - not even close. Then she climbed up on my roof and sat there watching the guys work. When some trash blew off of the roof, she told me to pick it up and put it in the dumpster. She said that she was with the company. It turns out that she was not.
The job was finished in a day.
A few days later the rep and the foreman came over and looked over the finished job. The foreman, whose name escapes me, was very professional. He found a few stained shingles and the crooked vent line and arranged to send someone back to fix them. No fuss, no muss.
Once that was done, the GAF (manufacturer) rep came by the house to look over the roof for their warranty.
During this closing process, I asked, several times, about the wind mitigation form that I would need for my insurance company. The representative said that it was all set. Not a problem.
The day he came to collect payment, he told me that he did not, in fact, have the wind mitigation paperwork at the time, but he would when he came to my house. This form is an important part of the contract that was agreed to. He did not bring the form. He gave me the excuse that only the owner could fill it out and he would have to bring it to me later. Essentially, I feel like I was strong armed into paying for an incomplete product. One that I was talked into buying, at an additional cost of $400+.
I agreed to pay for the roof, but told him that I expected the document by the end of the week. Which gave the owner 4 days to fill out the form. I didn't hear from him until @1600 Friday, that, essentially, I would not be getting my document until it was convenient for the owner. He would get back to me on Monday.
It is now 1300 on Monday. I have called twice. My calls have not been answered, nor returned.
This contract has been paid for, but not completed.
**Full disclosure, my deposit check bounced, as I accidentally wrote it on my daily expences account, rather than my home renovations account. As soon as I noticed it I contacted the company, on a Friday. They didn't return my call until Monday, when I was told that their bank had assessed them a $7 fee. I had already contacted my bank who let me know that the check had already cleared by that time. The 8th, the Friday that I noticed the problem. I was then harassed by Vicky, in the office, who claimed that the check was not cleared and charged me $30 for the check not clearing. I was very careful to write my payment check on the correct account, which they had no trouble cashing within two days of receiving it - still without having completed the terms of the contract.
"Permit was pulled on 11-7-2013 and work commenced on 11-20-2013. On 11-27-2013, Hillsborough County Building Dept. inspected the roof for code compliance and completion and it was approved and finaled by the county. Ms. House did call complaining of that we used old lead boots, we did not put the ridge vent across the top like she had previously ( this was not standard practice or required ) and that there was tar stains on the roof. I had our superintendent go check these issues out. We did determine these were issues and I had them corrected immediately. Another factor in performing the work and completing it in a timely and efficient manner was that Ms. House woluld not allow us to work on certain work days or times. This prevented us to accomplish our work, cleanup and quality audit surveys as we regularly do. The lead boots were new, not used or old, (pictures can be provided) the ridge vent was added to meet her aesthetic wishes (Not required under codes or Manufactures recommendations ) and all stained shingles were replaced. As for Ms. House’s complaint about the rotten wood. When I spoke to Ms. House regarding the rotten wood, I immediately ask for our superintendent to go and investigate. It was concluded that in fact, the wood was not replaced on the back of the house where the broken gutters were hanging. We scheduled this to be corrected and completely inspected for quality assurance. The stains on the driveway were minor however, they were legitimate and was cleaned. We have no knowledge of any broken plant to date and therefore, I cannot address this issue. On December 14, 2013 Ms. House received a Notice to Owner from our vendor. This is normal practice for the protection of the home owner and required by State Law. No lien was ever even spoke about since we as a standard practice in our company we do not required final payment until the work is completed to industry standards and open items that are legitimate are completed. ( a copy of this notice can be provided) As to the Subcontract crew, it is not often, however based on the work load, we do sometimes hire qualified subcontractors to perform work when we are backed up. In this case, we did start with a sub that has done a lot of good quality work, but after we saw the scope of work (3 layers of roof) we decided not to use them for this particular project. The crew that did the roof replacement was one of our year round crews that are on our payroll and work for us full time. As to the additional 200.00, this was a mistake on our part and it has been credited Copies of pictures and back up documents are available and we will be happy to forward copies as required."
Company called back "3" days later.
I was told he only handled complete roof replacement NOT repair.
He refused to come out and inspect my property unless it was to replace my roof.
Well.................I'm not an expert in the feild of roofing!
I explained my insurance company wanted the roof inspected by 4-5 seperate companies and would pay for the inspection.
He declined and said someone who handles repair would contact me!
No contact from anyone at this company.
Maybe their too busy!!!!!
"Member call our office on 7/16/2012 for a roof inspection/repair. She was told that the earliest we could get there was 2 -3 weeks because we were completely book up. She said that she would call someone else and and she was thanked and told if she could not find someone else sooner, to call back and we would see what we could do.We never heard back until now when she filed this review. Based on other reviews she file on the same day and and almost 9 months later, I cannot understand why she filed it."
"On May 18th, the customer contacted our office via our internet site for an estimate on her home. She was contacted for an appointment and my salesmen met her on May 21th 2012. On June 19th 2012, the customer signed a reroofing contract with my salesmen. The contract was very detailed and she signed and initialed all parts including the Scope of Work which was very detailed. At that time, Tropical Storm Debbie had just formed off the coast of Mexico. She was advised that we were, at that time, approximately 2 weeks out on the schedule. The storm formed and headed our way with several inches of rain and heavy winds. As a result of the storm, we were delayed several days and she was informed. She contacted me, and demanded that we either start her roof or cancel the contract. After talking with the customer, she was completely unreasonable and wanted to cancel the contract. I finally decided that based on my conversations with her, it would be best to refund her money and cancel the agreements. When I contacted her to advise her that I would refund the deposit, she refused to cancel. I advised her that she was the one requesting to cancel, and that I would be happy to have her deposit delivered to her home. I finally agreed to fulfill our contract under the condition she understood the schedule delays. On July 5th, (2 days late of our original commitment even with the storm) we started the reroofing of her home. Conditions of this home were probably one of the worst I have seen. The house was missing shingles, wood rot was throughout the house, the flat roof had been covered with a blue tarp to prevent the water from leaking into the house (this tarp had been installed several months prior to her contacting us), the wood fascia was rotted etc. Pictures of the house prior to starting are available to be view by any guest of Angie’s list as well as all documentation in the file. Lastly, American Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. completed the customer’s reroofing with the highest of standards in the industry. We even did work that was not a part of the contract in order to complete the job to the highest of standards. All the accusations made by the customer regarding permits, lies, scope of work, etc, are completely false and welcome any one to view the file. As a result of non-payment of the balance due, American Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc., has taken the required action to protect its interest. American Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. is proud to be affiliated with Angie’s List and welcome any guest to inquire regarding this single issue."
I have also received follow up calls from Albert who wanted to make sure there wasn't any issues with the roof. He advised someone would be out around March or April to inspect the roof and make sure everything is still good.
