|for the shipping to get it to the new location BUT, my son and I had to uncrate it and carry it up 17 steps to the condo.
By the time the movers loaded everything the day of the move and brought it to the new apartment, it was about 1 hour and 35 minutes since they arrived at the old apartment. I made a comment to one of them that they had about 25 minutes left on the clock (until the 2 hours that came with the Groupon voucher expired). The driver replied that the 2 hours was long over already because the clock starts ticking as soon as the movers leave the All In a Box office in Tampa. Our daughter said that wasn't the deal she brokered over the phone with the receptionist, so the movers gave us a card with the company phone number and recommended we talk to Victor Busciglio.
I called and spoke with a receptionist. She was very polite and said the details were spelled out in the contract we signed. I pointed out that we never signed a contract as our daughter didn't have a way to print out the copy sent to her. The receptionist said she'd have Mr. Busciglio call us.
Mr. Busciglio called. He was condescending ('we tell everyone about those costs; not everyone comprehends') and absolutely uncompromising ('it's her fault alone') throughout the call. He continued to refer to the contract (which, it's true, more clearly explains the transportation costs) and said the contract trumped the telephone-call misunderstanding despite the fact that the contract was never seen by our daughter before the move was completed (again, not the company's fault though they could have easily prevented the eventual outcome by more explicitly stating all of the costs in dollars and cents given the fact that our daughter told them she didn't have a way to print out the contract).
When I asked him how we could resolve the situation given my daughter's very tight moving budget and the misunderstanding that occurred, he said he would stop the job and keep her items that were still on the truck until he received payment in full. Legally, he was probably right. However, his manner and attitude were very disappointing under the circumstances.
In the end, our daughter wrote a check for an additional $165, bringing the total ($304) to more than double the $139 she thought she would be charged. The main reason I won't use them again is the abysmal customer service and inability of Mr. Busciglio to see two sides of the issue. Very interesting approach from a company whose web site boasts: "ALL IN A BOX MOVING & STORAGE is a different kind of moving company. Customer Service is our number one priority."
"This the most common misunderstanding that some customers have that do not read the contract and listen when we expalin the terms of the move. Our terms are explained to everyone more than once and then stated clearly in the contract which was signed by the customer, I understand that the customer was on a tight budget but it is their responsibility to READ what they sign. We tell thousands of customers tha same thing just like every other mover. ALL customers pay for travel time to and from the the job. We pay our movers to drive to and from the job so we charge our customers. This is standard in the business. Our promotion was already giving the customer 2 hours for less than the price of one and he even wanted more than that! So I apologize for not making the customer happy but we can only do so much. So I recommend to Member always read what you sign and LISTEN! Thank You!"
