I have a home owner's warranty that covers air conditioner failures. All I have to pay is a $60 copay for any service. The company that issued the warranty selects a local service provider after you phone in a problem. I didn't have any choice in the selection. After the contractor's name was provided to me, I looked them up on Angie's. For this company, Air-Flow Control, there was only one review and it was dated 2006. The review was all positive but not necessarily reflective of the company's performance 8 years later.
I would guess that most calls to a/c repair companies are from people whose system has failed and, of course, everyone would like to get the system repaired ASAP. So, I was happy to get on their schedule and get my system repaired in only 2 days after I called in the problem. If you didn't have to go through the warranty claim process, I would imagine that many would just keep calling around until they found someone who could come more quickly.
The problem with my a/c was that the outside unit's fan was not running causing the compressor to shut down. Air-Flow told me in advance that if it was a bad capacitor, they could fix it right away. If it was the fan motor, it would take more time to procure the motor and I would be without air for several more days. Fortunately, it WAS the capacitor and replacement of it resulted in the fan working again.
While they were here, they checked the "pressures" to verify that there wasn't a leak. There wasn't.
In conclusion, I was somewhat concerned in the beginning about the expected quality of the service because I had never heard of them. And, there wasn't any real data on Angie's. But, I was very pleased with the service provided by Air-Flow. They came at the time promised, quickly and correctly diagnosed the problem, and installed a replacement part. I would use them again even if I didn't have a homeowners warranty.
