They were extremely prompt at picking up the car, but from there on it was like they were holding for ransom. If you decided not to have the car fixed there you had to pay to pay a high towing fee. They would not give an estimate until the transmission was torn apart. Then there would be a $700 fee if you decided not to have the work done there.
These people are professionals, they have seen every make, model, and year of transmission in existence and know what to expect. Its hard to quote a price without doing diagnostics but having seen so many transmissions they should be able to ballpark a high and low figure. When I picked up my car I asked if if was unusual for a transmission to break at the low mileage I had. There response was "They all go at about that mileage". So they do have info.
They have a Lifetime warranty, but to keep it active you must bring in the car every year (no matter the mileage since the last visit) and have it inspected and pay for a fluid change. Most manufacturers don't require that service for 5 years or 50 thousand miles.
I did have to go back and have the flywheel bolts tightened because they evidently forgot to tighten them originally.
I was trying to complete the sale of my old car.
The buyer took it to his trusted mechanic, after payment, and they reported that the car needed either the transmission to be rebuilt or replaced, as they had discovered looseness in there. This was going to essentially blow any sort of profit I could make of it.
With an AAMCO just up the street, I brought the car over there for a second opinion, explaining what the other fools had discovered.
They discovered a bolt or two were loose, tightened them up and, just like, my buyer was happy and my sale was complete.
Went from a $2000 bogus job to a $25 dream job!
Thanks guys!!!
I was impressed that they were willing to search for the part at the salvage yard.. Unfortunately it was Sat and many places were closed so I had to rent a car over the weekend and resume the search the following Monday. (not their fault).
Monday morning they called and indicated that they found the part and it was to be delivered and installed by the end of the day. The end of the day came and went no part. They made their apologies and threw in an oil change for free. It would be there the following morning they said, and would only take about an hour or so to install. I returned the rental waited in their lobby expecting and hoping that they would make my repair a priority.....Not so much. It was 4pm by the time I was on the road.
Perhaps we can lay all the blame on the parts delivery person that should have delivered the part to them the day before....but when they knew I was sitting in the lobby waiting and did not make me a priority after all that had happened, I walked away as a dissatisfied customer.
