He was punctual, called before he came out and was honest and very professional. I will definitely use this company in the future when my grandpa unit decides to retire!

I want to thank you Bob Ford from Evergreen Air to address the ongoing AC issues. Having been in Florida for the last 9-10 years and I can say that Bob is one of most professional contractors I have come across. He work was excellent, timely and courteous. I was able to communicate with him frequently and he was able to diagnose and repair in a timely manner the issues with the AC. It will be my pleasure to recommend him to family and friends her in Florida.

$4,150

We'd been having a series of parts failures over the past six months in our central air system. Issues included failed contactor, transformer, capacitor, thermostat, and frozen fan motor.  An ever growing list of odd sounds, and vibrations were noted.  Cooling of rooms furthest from unit was taking longer.

After a service call, I asked Bob Ford from Evergreen A/C for his professional opinion on continuing repairs if needed, or if it might be time for a new unit.

He explained that since the compressor was still working ok and there were no system leaks, that getting through this this season was a good bet; but the excessive vibrations and lowered efficiency were due to normal wear and tear and curing those problems one at a time wouldn't be cost effective. I kept anticipating the sales pitch from Bob, but he simply mentioned buying a new unit as one of our options.  I told Bob I'd get back with him in a day or two.

My wife and I discussed the options and were leaning towards buying a new unit just to make sure we didn't have a breakdown in the middle of a South Florida summer when it could take days or more to repair/replace a suddenly failed A/C. There was one last thing to check before our final decision.

Went out to the garage, and after stripping away some aluminum sealing tape, I located the boilerplate on the  upper panel.  I was amazed to find that this unit had been installed  over 21 years ago. I'd never heard of  a residential A/C system lasting longer than 13 - 14 years, so I decided to quit while ahead. Called Bob about a new unit.

We decided on a 4 ton Rheem, with a 10kw heater. Chose to spend, I believe, $200 extra for an optional 16 SEER over the standard 14 SEER model.

The existing copper tubing and  electrical wiring were still in excellent condition and would not need to be replaced.

The final, out-the-door price, which included delivery, installation, testing, any adjustments,  and removal of the old unit and all packing materials from the new unit, totaled $4,150. A free maintenance visit in 6 months is included.

Bob had assistance unloading and positioning the new split system, but he personally assembled, checked, and tested each component part working with only me for company.

I've seen these systems installed several times in different homes, and watching Bob work was a little different experience.

He worked methodically, double checking each step of the way, but getting it done quickly and efficiently. He's the first installer  I've seen use a special thick mastic applied to all permanent seams before using HVAC sealing tape. The mastic slowly hardens into a solid and locks joints and insulation into a leak proof assembly.

The plenum on  the new unit was smaller in diameter  than the old unit , and Bob carefully constructed a double reinforced, custom fit reducer/adapter to match up the unit with the existing ductwork. Again using mastic to ensure an airtight, permanent bond.

The outside compressor and condenser unit was hooked up, and the unit then secured to the slab.

Bob then gave me a tour of the install. He explained the drainage, built in shutoff if there was a backup, thermocouple sensor, auto electric disconnect to remove the front panel and offered to install the included thermostat.

Then we went inside to check for real-world cooling at the room vents. Not only were the vents producing colder air, but the velocity at every vent was noticeably  higher. I believe the reduced diameter of the new plenum played a part in that.

Bob stayed until he was satisfied that everything was working properly. I wrote him a check, we shook hands, and that was it.

He called a few days later, a courtesy call to make sure all was ok, and we were satisfied.

Altogether a first rate experience with a seasoned professional who enjoys his work, is trustworthy and believes in old fashioned customer service.

I'd recommend Bob for any HVAC work, whether it's routine maintenance, technical problems requiring expert diagnostic skills,

or consultation for a decision to buy a new unit.
