They did an excellent job. They were innovative. Everything works great now. They were very patience, and the fix was better than the original. Their general contractors, I think the only reason why they did it is because, they built my house about 13 years ago. After the house was built they did follow-up with things. In order to reassess the tile, they had to get thinner wall board. They had to go to the hardware store, so I think in total it took them six hours. They took it apart in one day and then came back the following day to put it all together. They were very prompt. They showed up when they said they would show up. I couldn't have asked for more.

Skip Sheffield is honest, skilled, and a pleasure to work with. He built a large, complex house for me on a cost-plus fee basis. He negotiated the best prices from subcontractors and demanded a high level of professionalism from everyone who worked on the house. Changes in the plan never bothered him. I would never build another house with anyone else if he is available.

In earlier years, I had become familiar with Skip Sheffield's work and thought the quality of the homes he constructed were clearly of higher quality than other competitors of that period. After a fire destroyed our lake home, we asked Sheffield Construction to consider building our new home on the same site and were very fortunate that he agreed to be our contractor. He helped us thing through a miriad of details and advised us on the pros and cons of each option. He even took us on a tour of some of his earlier projects and neighborhoods to give us a detailed look as some of the options we were considering. As the construction began, Mr. Sheffield would bring us weekly project managent details of what would be happening that week and a list of decisions or choices that we needed to make that week so that he could get appropriate materials and hardware on order and thus avoid any delays in the construction. He also provided us with regular detailed reports on  where we were at that particular point on every aspect of the project's budget (how much over or under the targeted amount). I was very pleasantly supprised to be getting such a detailed level of project managent at every step of the way. Having personal experience with project management methodologies in the information technology field, I was impressed with Mr. Sheffield's proficiency, skill, and follow-through. It was also very comforting to see how much room was left in the budget to consider more high-end options. Either my wife or I were on-site at the end of each day to monitor developments and provide any clarification needed by the sub-contractors regarding what we wanted. Each sub-contractor did an exceptional job, under Mr. Shieffield's overall direction. The concrete people poured the foundation in a single pour so that there would be no seams or cracks that could result in later problems. The cement block work on the finished basement was so straight and smooth that we hesitated to cover it up with drywall and hide it. The two story old-brick fireplace was a beautiful piece of work. The woodwork on the kitchen island and cabinets are still gorgeous. Mr. Sheffield's advice and carefull management of the budget enabled us to alter the plans to include a billiard room in the basement (one of our favorite rooms in the house.) The final result exceeded our expectations! We still enjoy having showing our home off to visiting guests. If we ever have to build another home, I will definitely seek out Skip Sheffield and Sheffield Contruction to be my builder.

We met Skip because he built the first home we bought when we were married, and we called him to ask for a name of someone to fix something that needed to be repaired (after the warranty had expired).  It was a small home and he had no obligation to fix the problem at that time, but came immediately and insisted on doing so.  We decided to use Skip when we built our next home and had such a positive experience, we wouldn't even consider using any one else in the future.  Some people think Skip is expensive, but as I have told others when recommending him, he will give you the most accurate, fair price he can up front so you won't be in for surprises later.  You will find no more honest person anywhere than Skip Sheffield.  He keeps detailed, extensive records, so there is never any question about what something cost and he can pull up the most obscure details should you need them later.  Skip will always find the best subs at the best price for you, so he is saving you money in that regard, and I guarantee you will end up with a more beautiful home if you use Skip.  He has a keen eye for design and his wealth of experience will prove of benefit to you as he makes numerous suggestions throughout the project. He loves the details of building and will work with you to get the most beautiful results possible for you.  I have heard many people talk over the years about what a nightmare their building project was, but of all the people I know who used Skip, I have never heard a bad remark about him and many of us who have been his clients have become his good friends after working with him professionally.

We hired Skip Sheffield to build our new home in 2001 based on the recommendation of the contractor who built our last home but was no longer doing residential construction.  During the design phase, Skip reviewed the work of our residential designer and suggested both design and money-saving improvements that were included in the final plans.

After receiving a detailed estimate, we decided to proceed with a cost-plus contract instead of a fixed price option. This worked to our advantage, since the final construction cost was almost exactly on budget despite design changes that we requested during construction. Skip effectively made cost savings on other parts of the project that offset our additions to the design.  Skip provided detailed monthly accountings throughout the construction process. The project was completed on-time and (but for our changes) under-budget.
In 2009, we hired Skip to build an addition to our house and to expand the size of a stand-alone workshop. We again used a cost-plus contract and had an aggressive time schedule. This work was completed on-time and on-budget.
The quality of Skip's work is outstanding. Over the past 12 years, whenever we have had a maintenance issue (e.g. after 11 years, a roof leak where squirrels had chewed around a roof vent), Skip has either had his staff fix the problem or has referred us to a competent specialist.
We have been extremely pleased with our relationship with Sheffield Construction, and would recommend them to anyone who wants professional, custom work at a fair price.

Being first time home builders, the entire process went extremely smoothly.  I am familiar with construction processes and I have heard horror stories from many others who have built houses and other buildings, but we never experienced any problems.  Skip Sheffield and his project manager Mike Dardano were well organized, quick to respond to our many many questions and addressed all of our issues.  In the one item where the plans and the spects were in conflict they agreed to split the cost difference with us, which we thought was fair.  They did not add their profit margin to the additional cost since it was a reasonable misunderstanding.  He also did not add his profit margin when the insulation contractor correctly insisted we go with spray insulation because a air handler is in the attic (our electric bill shows this was a good idea).  They explained what they were doing and why along with why they could not do a couple of things we asked about.  At any point in the project we could see exactly where we were in our budget.
Mike went above and beyond to help us find economies or savings on our project.  He searched the Internet to find what we wanted / needed for something, often finding a better price than we could get locally.  By doing this we were able to add a few things that had been cut from our project back in and also add some enhancements to our original plans and still come in very close to our original budget.
During the entire construction process, the work site was maintained in a very clean and orderly manner, there was never any trash or debris lying about..  I felt that I could drop by and see what was happening or bring friends by to see things anytime.
As we moved in and got settled in our house, the usual small things cropped up that needed to be addressed.  Skip was very prompt in addressing them or arranging for a subcontractor to address any issues such as paint touch up, minor electrical hiccups, etc.

WONDERFUL  - we had a slow start because Skip was busy finishing a large job. This worked well for use because Skip gave me several ideas for our design. This was the first time Skip had worked with an owner who did  the drawings. I think Skip was cautious at first, but he was patient with me and helped a great deal.
I spent almost every day on the job site. Skip and the superintendent, Jerry Davis, were always professional and helpful. It was a great job from start to finish. I'd love to do it again.

We met with Skip Sheffield - the owner - he made a personal visit to our home and gave us valuable input and saved us over $4000.00 on the installation of new front doors.  We were ready to install with a competitor and he was so honest.  He gave us a fair price for a better product and saved us $4000.00.  His work and the subcontractors he associates with are so impressive.  I must mention Joe with Visual Perfection Painting who's crew stained the doors and also matched the stairwell banner perfectly to the stain of the front doors.  Clean, efficient,on time  and most of all respectful of our home.
Thank you Skip - you are one of a kind and so appreciated for your beautiful work!

didn't use.  Never came through with true estimate that was reasonable.
Response from Sheffield Construction Co Inc

"The Owner delivered a home plan for pricing with a budget we felt was unrealistic. We did not receive any deposit to create an estimate as claimed. We did not provide a detailed estimate. 2010 was a very busy year for us. We simply did not have time to devote to a project with an unrealistic budget.Last contact with this Owner was in 2010. Odd that such a review would turn up in 2013."
