They were not too punctual because in the construction industry nobody is punctual. We liked them very much anyway. Susan, the owner, recently called and asked us if she could use us as a reference for another job, and we said yes. Our experience with them was very good. My husband is an architect and is pretty picky. She was very good at working with him. She catered to things that he cared about that most people might not usually care about. We had a couple of mix-ups that were change orders, but we were able to work that out. All in all she was very good. We would definitely use them again.

We interviewed a couple of contractors and liked Susan the best. Chose her, turned out she couldn't start the job until November, so we pushed it off until after the holidays. The very first thing Susan did was install a generally effective dust barrier between the kitchen and the rest of the house. It worked about as well as those things do. Two walls were torn out and the kitchen and bathroom completely gutted. A load bearing beam was replaced. The foundation was cut so new pipe could be laid for gas appliances and new bathroom and laundry room. We learned a lot, for instance that plumbers make some of their profit out of the fixtures purchased locally, and don't like it when you provide fixtures purchased independently or over the internet. Also when a painter says "first thing in the morning," that means before noon. The work seemed to go very quickly, and it was somewhat surprising that it ended up taking 4 months to complete. A couple of the delays were caused by us: we took about 3 days to decide what paint colors we wanted, and a couple of weeks on the light fixtures (which then had to be ordered). A couple of delays were caused by supplies not arriving, and then when they got here, the subs were elsewhere, at a critical point in the other project and couldn't leave, that kind of thing. It wasn't completely unexpected, and it didn't happen that often.
