Crooked - everything was crooked.
Response from R&R Fence and Deck
"This customer wanted to save as much money as she could, she only wanted some of the floor boards replaced. She did not want to replace any of the frame or posts on the deck. The new floor boards were installed on the original frame and the hand rail was installed on the original posts. The old frame and posts were not straight, but she did not want to spend any more money, so we had to work with what we had. We should not get a low rating just because we did what the customer wanted!! Also this work was done almost a year ago! As of this date, the customer has not done any up keep to the new boards, no pressure wash, no stain and never has this customer called and asked us to fix or change or replace any thing!!!"

Everything went very smoothly, no major issue. The only issue I found was the deck board spacing. The spacing is fairly inconsistent and in some places non-existent. I am a little worried about drainage in a down pour, but so far light rains have not been an issue.

Originally came to replace a rotted deck. Rick spotted potential problem in the house and asked permission to look underneath. Apparently, our house was built using spare parts and unskilled vandals as labor, and the entire subflooring was rotting from the underside. We had the house checked by an independent structural engineering firm, and they agreed with Rick's diagnosis and recommendations 100%. His crew ended up replacing 80% of our floors thoughout the downstairs, identified and repaired seriously problems with load-bearing walls, removed moldy drywall, pulled old insulation (which was full of bats!) and installed a moisture barrier under house. They leveled the house, replaced beams and added supports which had been missing or insufficient for the 2nd story area. Did lots of extras for us (out of pity, I suppose!), did beautiful drywall repair, and gave excellent recommendations for kitchen remodel. 100% satisfied with clean up, communication, and dog-friendly team.

Overall the project went really well. Rick responded to my initial contact through Angie's List very quickly and came out to give me an estimate a few days later. He ended up having the best price out of the three estimates I obtained so I decided to go with him.
The deck was finished about a week and a half after I paid the initial deposit. He had initially told me it would be about 2 weeks before he could get started, so things actually were done a little bit ahead of when I thought they would be. Once started the project took about 2 days.

Originally, I only needed the deck replaced and some of the wood rot fixed. When Rick met me out there, he gave me a very reasonable price to do all the work...so I said go for it! His people were there on time and completed the work in a professional manner. They cleaned up the yard when they were done and didn't leave a mess. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend them for and deck, fencing or siding repair.

We had Rick come out and measure the yard, and he gave suggestions and clear quotes of several different scenarios. We decided what we wanted, and he gave us a start date of about 10 tens later. They came as scheduled, and got a lot done. They worked around uneven ground, tree roots, removed shrubbery, and creatively avoided trees that were on the fence line. We have dogs, as do our neighbors, so they built the connecting side first, as we requested. They kept us informed of the progress, and of an unexpected delay due to weather. The finish date was 2 days later than expected, which is not surprising for an outdoor job. Overall, a very pleasant and professional experience. The fence looks great, there are no gaps at the bottom so the dogs are safe, and the fence appears to be very well constructed.

Highly recommend them!

Immediate response to our inquiry and provided lowest quote from those that returned our calls. Showed up as promised, performed the work as quoted and on time. Even made enhancements at no additonal charge to improve aesthetics. My wife is super pleased and the neghbors have made it a point to ask if they could join us afternoons on our new addition. In addition, Rand R relocated foliage into a raised bed they installed at no additional cost! Have contacted them since for other jobs around our home and continue to refer them to my freinds.

This was the worst experience I have ever had with any contractor. The fence looks horrible. There are gaps as wide as 3/4" between the pickets (this was supposed to be a privacy fence) and 1.5" on both gates. The main gate started sagging less than a week after installation. The gates were both hung from a 3" piece of 2x4 that was nailed to a 4x4 post. the gate hardware was only bolted to the small 2x4 and did not go through to the 4x4. There were gaps of more than 10' between many of the posts. Four of the rails (the horizontal 2x4s that the pickets are nailed to were cut through with a saw when a worked cut a gate on the wrong side of a post. Three of the four rails were repaired with a 2 foot piece of 2x4...one was not even repaired. I have begun tearing down the fence to fix the structural problems. I will have to spend another $1500 to install pickets on the back face of the fence due to the huge gaps between pickets. There is nothing that i can do about the cosmetic fluctuations with the top of the fence being uneven, except trim about one foot from the entire top.
Response from R&R Fence and Deck
"This was the worst expierence we have ever had with a customer !! The customer failed to mention several things! We agreed to install the new fence in the same location as the 25 year old fence. He wanted the new fence in a new location, after it was built ( at no charge ). He did not tell anyone he had installed cement under the old fence to keep his dogs in, right where the new fence had to go. He wanted the fence bigger, after we had finished the job ( at no charge ). He demanded we cut down extra trees, ( at no charge ) to make way for the new fence. We offered to repair or replace any thing he wanted, to make him happy, as every thing he wanted was cosmetic, He did not pay the total amount due. He built his own deck, ( without a permit ) because he could not find ANY contractors that were good enough for him. He demanded that we dig out the extra cement in the ground, and haul it off, ( at no charge ) , as he does not have a dog. At the very first meeting, the customer told us he is going to remodel his house him self, as he cant find ANY contractors that are good enough. We should have known better, than to do any work for him!!!"

Received three bids, this one was in line and maybe a little lower. they Started when they said they would and finished when they said they would. not a perfect job but good enough for the price. Rick is always ready to sell you something else if he see something that can be a problem with your house.
