Mike Underwood was suppose to power wash the entire house. He soft washed it because he said it wasn't good to power wash the vinyl. I told him it had been power washed 12 times. The two people that had done it in the past had done an excellent job, but have left the area. NOTE: We did not negotiate the cost, he gave us the prices because he wanted the Job. When he told us the power wash cost of $225, I told him he was low and he said that price was good and we gave him $250 in cash. He said the staining would be $850 - $900 and I said we would give him the $900.
He came with no ladders and when I asked him why and I told him former people had brought ladders, his response was, "they haven't been doing it as long as I have". We have 3 copula's, of which he couldn't reach from the ground...it is a tall 2 story home. I told him that the copula's still needed clean and he said he had done them, and then I showed him the dirt that had not been touched. He left and they were not clean. NOTE: We gave him a $100 deposit because he said he needed money to buy his supplies when he gave us his price of $250.00 on July 14 and he told us he would do it on Thursday. He called on Wed., and said he would be at the house on Thursday around 9:00. At noon I called and left a message. He called back at 1:00 and said he had been at the hospital with a friend, but he would be here on Friday. Friday came and went. call on Monday. On Tuesday, 7/22, he called and needed $25 more to buy the supplies (we all know that Clorox is CHEAP!) We were at lunch and he came to the restaurant to get the $25 at 11:15 am and didn't show up to do the house until 2:15 pm. We gave him the $25 because he already had our $100 and we wanted the house washed.
We had felt sorry for him and had also hired him to do the staining on the entire house, including the deck railing, spindles, and the trellis on front of house. He didn't want us to get bids and he said he would do it for $900 and asked for $300 to buy the stain. We gave him the $300 in cash because he said he couldn't cash a check since it was after 5:00 pm. We also gave him the $250 in cash for the 'soft wash' because he couldn't cash the check. He called and asked if he could have another 'draw' and hadn't started the staining. I was shocked that he was asking for additional monies and hadn't even finished the first job and I told him no. I had my husband call him on 7/ 24 because we hadn't heard from him and tell him that he had to finish washing the cupola's before he started painting. My husband also told him he couldn't stain if it was raining (he had told me he could stain in the rain because if I read the can it would say it was okay (this is untrue). He showed up that afternoon with another person at 3:00 pm and he said he was going up on the roof and hand wash the 3 cupola's because he didn't want to get the house wet so they could stain. At that point I gave up and he had to figure out how to get on the roof which took him abut an hour and he was using our ladders because he didn't have any tall enough and I volunteered to let him use ours. His helper started staining and was excellent....but, the rains came, so not much got done.
They came back the next day, Friday, and when they stopping for the day, Mike asked my husband for another draw since it was the weekend and my husband told him he wasn't getting anymore money until the job was done. At that point Mike tells my husband that the trellis wasn't included in his cost which is untrue, because after he had given us the price, we had told him he didn't have to stain the lattice that was on top of the trellis because we were taking it off and replacing it and he thanked us. At that point, my husband had had it with him and told him he wasn't getting anymore money until the job was done including the trellis and that was the last time we saw him. The job is barely started, so we are looking for a reliable company to do the job!
Needless to say, this guy is a real con artist! His helper, Stan, did a great job on what did get done, I hope Mike paid him.
His reviews were the reason I had given him the opportunity and he told us he needed work and that is what trust got us!
"Unfortunately everyone who lives in upscale communities are not always honest. Furthermore I will simply say in response to this review that I pray the home owners in this rare case may find help with their addictions to alcohol and dishonesty. There are a plethora of help agencies in the community for such common diseases and I pray they may find them now. I will stand beside my outstanding reputation as a credible , courteous ,respectful , and honest service provider in this community. Let my reviews stand for themselves here and elsewhere on line!!!!!"

After a couple of hours of washing, the house was completely white. Before putting his equipment on his truck, Mr. Underwood asked me to take a review walk around the house with him to show me what he done and to secure my satisfaction with the work accomplished. The job was done very well. He had not missed any areas of the siding cleaned. The shingles were as white as if they were brand new.
Mr. Underwood removed all his equipment and replaced items that were in the way back to their respective places.
