The 1st pour went OK as it was small - 1 truckload. The 2nd pour on day 2 was larger (3 trucks) and one problem was that Florida Rock dispatched two trucks at almost the same time and one had to sit for 2 hours. During that time the driver added 60 gallons of water (to cool the cement?). Florida Rock initially criticized this and later said it should not be a problem. We did not drive on the driveway for 2 weeks. After the 2nd pour, 3 horizontal cracks across the driveway appeared the next day. Several more cracks appeared over the next few days. Florida Rock eventually sent a quality control representative to take pictures of the cracks. We heard nothing until I sent an e-mail and received a letter back stating that the driveway was structurally sound and that concrete is very unpredictable. They also provided documents regarding proper technique for finishing cement. Florida Rock made a 2nd visit with a manager and the quality control representative. This visit was apparently for show and to report that there was no problem with the concrete and the entire fault was with the contractor who finshed the concrete. We found that Florida Rock takes no responsibility for their product and denies any issues with their product (i.e. sand rising to the surface, spontaneous cracking, weird discoloration - circles, stripes, etc.). Even the fact that they dispatched two trucks at almost the same time and one had to sit for 2 hours waiting was not their problem. The list goes on and on and they claim nothing is their fault. We are approximately 1 month later and the problems continue. To be fair, the contractor did not do an elegant finishing job as it is rough and uneven in many areas. But, the finisher spread the concrete as it was poured, leveled it, and smoothed and brushed it. We believe a reasonable person would think that some part of this disturbing situation is the result of bad concrete mix. However, we are just a homeowner using a small minority businessman and Florida Rock is a large company. Our advice - THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU LET YOUR CONTRACTOR USE FLORIDA ROCK TO SUPPLY YOUR CEMENT.
