This deck and steps was built 4 years ago and I had to tear it down because it rotted. Steps leading down to deck were supported by heavy pilings that rested on the deck boards. Over a period of time the heavy pilings caused the deck boards to sag, rain would pool and deck boards eventually rotted. The heavy pilings should have been put in the ground,,,not resting on the deck boards. Or at least extra support underneath the deck boards supporting the heavy pilings. I do not recommend Darrell Fain

Around the 1st of April my neighbor had his entire roof replaced.  Took the company 4 days to do it and I watched his crews do what I thought was an excellent job from start to finish.  Based on what I had seen I talked to some of the crew and the foreman came over to see if he could help me.  Kevin Defulio, the foreman, came over about an hour later and was gungho to help me with whatever I needed.  Bear in mind that the entire time I thought I was going to get work done by the company NOT by him.
Well, to make a long story short, Mr. Defulio scheduled the job to take place on 12 & 13th.  Come the day he was supposed to be here I waited and waited and finally called him up to find that he was unavailable and working on someone elses home.  I then asked him when he would be available to come over and he stated that he would be here on the 20th.  Again, I stress I was expecting him to show up with a work crew.  This person turned up with a girl that was terribly emaciated and obviously was not in good shape.  I expressed concern about this and he stated that the woman was helping him to earn money to go back to GA to take care of an aunt.  I asked him where the work crew was and he stated he thought it better to just come over himself seeing as it was a small job. I didn't care for this response but given that my roof was leaking in the house and down the wall, and that I had been unsuccessful in locating anyone to fix this I chose to go ahead and have the job done.
The man proceeded to then take my entire upper porch off the house claiming he was not able to repair the roof under the porch, and over the back room that was to be replaced.  He threw all the material off the roof as he was ripping it off, and everything was scattered all over the back side of the house.  His assistant was pretty well useless except for passing him tools every now and then and keeping him company and talking constantly. After about 3 hours he had torn off everything down to the wood beams and started to replace everything that was supposed to be fixed.  Another 3 hours went by, and he finally started to seal the single sheet of rubber shingling with heat. I questioned this, but he claimed this was the best product and the best way to ensure that the roof would remain intact.  After about an hour he decided to leave - the pile of material was heaped into an enormous pile and he just picked up his tools and left.
Later that evening when I went to let my dog out so she could do her business and so forth I noticed the pile.  I called up Kevin who said he would be out the next day (Sunday) to pick everything up - I was (and still am) very concerned about the rusty roofing nails that are strewn around the area and will not allow my dog to go anywhere near the area as I am afraid she will step on one or more of them - I have crawled out there and picked them up as best I can but I know there are still more around on the ground.  He never turned up. After repeated calls to him he finally sent the woman who had assisted him over, (without telling me I might add nor giving me any idea when or what time she was to come to the house) and she picked up the pile and hurled it over the fence into the empty green lot next door. I had expressly told Kevin that he was to get this stuff out of here yet it remains here to this day. Furthermore, the woman used my contractor bags to pick up some of the materials and then claimed she was going to dump them at the garbage facility down the street.  When I went out later that evening to pick up my paper, I noticed two contractor bags stuffed in and around my fence on the street egress side.
I called Kevin numerous times and he never has been back here yet to clean up the disaster that is sitting next door and that I cannot get to given I am wheelchair bound and disabled. Kevin was to return to fix and repair my roof around the chimney where there was wood rot as well as on the back porch, rebuild the back porch, fix the rear ramp so I could get down it with my wheelchair and also build a conex box to store my generator out of the elements yet handy to the back door in case I had to use it during outages & hurricanes, etc. He was also supposed to do other work on and around the house that I have not been able to do due to my condition and lack of ability/knowledge.
No other work was completed by this man - he did however call my mother in California and got her to send him an additional $450 as a downpayment on the rest of the work that he was to perform. From this point onward he kept refusing to come out here, refused phone calls, left numerous messages on my phone claiming everything from he was sick, his back hurt, his truck was broken down, his truck had been wrecked to his neck had been operated on due to injury sustained during the truck wreck. I at this point decided to do a full background check and low and behold found that he had scammed and conned a considerable number of people, mostly women and elderly, out of money, had failed to complete work, had done a terrible job, etc.,etc., This can be confirmed by doing a search of the Leon County Clerks Office website.
I am extremely disappointed. disgusted, angry and disturbed by Kevin Defulio - that he purported himself to be working for and on behalf of Fain Construction and then turned up without a crew has and is a very sore point. The lies, bs, and other communications caused me to eventually call his boss, Wayne Fain, and explain the situation to him, and request that he assist me with getting the deposit back that Kevin had conned out of my mother.  Mr. Fain claimed he would get this all straightened out.  Nothing happened except I started receiving harassing and threatening calls from Kevin claiming I had no right to call his boss and that everything was my fault due to my being sick. I might add that I have had several other contractors since this incident that have looked at the job he did on the roof and each and every one have stated that the roofing job is not finished - there is no flashing, there is nothing to prevent the animals around the area from peeling the roof off the structure, and there is a large enough gap between where the shingle material was stuck to the roof and the side of the house to allow several families of raccoons to reside there in the winter time.
As of this date (10/05/2013) there has been no resolution to any of this.  Kevin even called my mother and promised her to return her money, but that has not happened either.  She has finally resorted to calling Mr. Fain and asking him to ensure that Mr. Defulio pays her back and Mr. Fain has assured that she would get it back early this coming week since he was supposed to send her a money order/certified check Friday after he received his pay.  Stay tuned to see what happens next - neither my mother nor I are holding our breath about this, but I have enough evidence collected (texts, voice mails, documents, etc.) to have a wonderful time with the State Attorneys Office (Mr. Meggs) should the need arise.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE ALLOW THIS MAN (OR WHATEVER COMPANY HE PURPORTS HIMSELF TO BE WORKING FOR) ANYWHERE NEAR ANY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. REPAIR, NOTHING! I write this to warn others about this man.  That he still has a job with this company as the foreman is beyond my comprehension given that Mr. Fain obviously knows what Kevin is doing but chooses to turn a blind eye to it and could care less with the exception of telling Kevin to take care of the problem - each time that Mr. Fain has done this I have been subjected to threats, cursing, and other incredibly unprofessional and rude behavior.  What else can you expect from a crook, a pathological liar and an ex-addict though?
The fact that Mr. Fain continues to allow this person to have unlimited and unrestricted access to peoples houses to give them quotes turns my stomach and frightens

Although we are not finished yet, just got dried in, he has been everything you could ask for in a builder and a person.  Excellent carpenter.  I wanted my builder to be the builder, not just a contractor, and he has been all of that.  He is a real perfectionist with his framing and proud of it.  On the job framing every day.  A man of his word so far and easy to work with.  Highly recommend him.  Will update as the house progresses.
