About Facing

About us

I can transform your old kitchen or bath into your dream kitchen with more functionality and personality than ever before. I mostly reface cabinets at a much more economical price compared to that of installing new cabinets. I started refacing in the Tallahassee area 20 years ago with a process of my own. I will be personally working on your home as I have no employees. There is no inconvenience to my customers as they can use their kitchen any time while I am working. I have grown my business by word-of-mouth advertising only and have a long list of happy customers and have made many great friends.

It went very well. He did exactly what he said he would do. The kitchen now looks new, fresh and modern. He suggested adding crown molding to the top of the cabinets which looks great -- good call!

They completed the job in one day. The cabinets were very dirty and losing the finish.  We did see a couple of places that need additional work.  They came back out without any questions and redid what we asked.  The cabinets look wonderful.

We are an older couple with plenty of experience in dealing with house projects and contractors--some good, some not so great. This cabinet refacing effort was part of an overall kitchen remodeling project involving new lighting, back splash and appliances. I can say unequivocally that Michael Keith is the finest craftsman with whom we have ever dealt. Exacting, meticulous, hard- working and utterly dedicated to perfection, we are just glad we found him via a word of mouth referral. My wife has dreamed of redoing the kitchen for years and the result has exceeded her expectations. Michael met or beat his original schedule projections, was on time every day and was totally committed to our project from start to finish. Always pleasant and personable, when working he was all business. A one man operation, he did the bulk of his prep work at his shop offsite with finishing/installation onsite. All the necessary painting in our home he did by hand. Given the size of the job, the amount of time Mr. Keith allocated to the effort and most importantly the results, we found his price to be entirely reasonable. Terms were 50% at start which included the cost of materials and the balance on satisfactory completion. If you are considering a kitchen overhaul you would be well advised to contact Mr. Keith for his experience, advice and, if you're lucky, his services.

Michael was very helpful and coordinated everything. I went to the recommended granite provider to selected the stone I wanted and a new sink. A couple days later the granite provider and Michael came to the house to measure the counters. About 10 days later it was delivered and installed. Unfortunately the installation happened on a Friday and because the under mount sink had to set for 18 hours before the plumbing could be connected, I was without water for the weekend. However, the plumber came to the house as scheduled on Monday morning and within an hour everything was connected and working. Michael came to the house on Tuesday to finish installing the trim and braces around the bar. I really appreciate Michael's help with this project.

He was on time and seemed knowledgeable and experienced with installing and removing countertops. He came out and measured the counter twice - once to get an estimate, and the second time to get accurate measurements. He called on the date of installation that the new countertop will not accomodate the electrical outlet and disposal switch that was in place. I requested for clarification and options and he said there's nothing we can do about it because the countertop cannot be returned since it's cut to fit our kitchen. He taped the electrical outlets and disposal and shoved them in the wall.
We had to hire an electrician to place the switch for the disposal under the kitchen sink. The electrician informed us that shoving live wires into the wall is a big code violation. The electrician ended up having to cut 4 big holes in the back of the counter to make the outlets "accessible" by putting the outlet boxes under in the cabinets.
The whole ordeal was frustrating to say the least since Michael claimed he has 20 years of experience.

He is dependable, always returns phone calls, and shows up for
appointments on time. All of the vendors and subs he uses were
courteous and did great work. Michael worked in my home while I was out
of town and there were no issues. He is very trustworthy. Note: he is getting very busy because of his great work!

Mike came by the house when first called and met with my wife and I. We were impressed from the start with Mike and what he said he could do. Mike if the upmost professional and is extremely dependable. Mike works on the kitchen cabinets but he had other companies that he recommends for other jobs such as the granite counter tops, the tile for the back splash, a plumber, and an electricain. Mike is reliable that if he tells you he will be at your home at a certain time, he will be there. If for some reason he can't make it then, he always calls to inform of why and to make alternate arrangements. He also expects the same out of the other companies that he recommends and wants a top notch job performed by them as well. Mike turned our kitchen into an absolutely gorgeous modern style kitchen with oak cabinets. Everybody that has come into our kitchen can't believe the transformation that occurred.
During the job, Mike was very tidy and always cleaned up after himself. He wants the kitchen to remain operable during his job so that families can use it in the evenings. Mike is also very meticulous in his work. I watched him make a few cuts that were off by a small amount and if it didn't fit perfectly; he worked with it until it did.
I can only give Mike an "A" rating as there is no AAA rating listed. If there was, he would be given this. Mike is well known around town and has an outstanding reputation with others. I have experienced first hand why he does. I would highly recommend him to anyone else and would not hesitate to use him again should the need ever arise.

Very professional, spent a lot of time preparing the bid, and explaining. Not sure if we will use them, just because there is so much work involved. I had a positive experience with him, but remember I have not had them do any work.

Everything went so smoothly. Michael is a professional and it shows in everything he does. He was neat, cleaned up after each visit, was prompt, had detailed plans and price sheet, was courteous, and absolutely trustworthy. He didn't rush his work and was very meticulous and precise. I didn't feel as if I needed to be at home while he was working. There were no surprises. He did exactly what he said he would do...and more. I have recommended him to several of my friends who have been equally as pleased. I HIGHLY recommend Michael Keith and About Facing for your kitchen or bathroom refacing needs.

I was referred to Michael Keith of About Facing from a friend in Tallahassee. My cabinets were very old but he explained that they could be refaced instead of the expense of replacing all the cabinet. He finished all the doors from real cherry wood and he created a stain that I liked very much. Some of the special features he included were a draw for my garbage can and drawer stacks; he created my old pantry closet into a beautiful cabinet with pull out drawers. He used crown molding to make a wonderful finishing touch and then included some free-standing shelves. Also, he installed a beautiful granite countertop. My old kitchen is now so functional in every way and customized for my needs. I loved working with him to figure things out. I was lost with certain decisions, but he had great ideas on how to solution my problem areas. I was so very pleased with his professionalism and his work ethic. He cleaned each day of installation and I did not have to remove all the stuff in my cabinets. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting a remodeled kitchen.

Since my original review, my cabinets have started turning white in certain areas.  As if the stain is fading on the cabinets which are a dark cherry color.  I do not excessively wash them in fact very little with a product that the contractor recommended.  This started just about a year after they were installed.  This is not the refaced area but the new cabinet doors that he finished himself  and installed - new material.  For this to happen just a year after they were installed and continue to get worse each year, they will need to be replaced again in a year or two or at least refinished.  This was not a quality job. I would warn you to question the quality process of his work and what he does to ensure that this does not happen.  I chose him because he did not offer laminate but real wood material that I could choose my color.  Well the color is turning white and it is just obvious that he didn't do something correct.  I believe a rating should reflect the quality of the product you are receiving.   In addition, the hardware that he raved about so the cabinets would close slowly is all slowly falling off each cabinet door - one by one.  Seeing the deterioration of my cabinets in such a short time, I would not recommend him.
