The sealant job performed by this company was sloppy and required extensive clean up to
remedy. The level of effort did not match the price charged.
I requested a quote (3-25-15) from this company to seal some bothersome
leaks in 5 PGT hurricane impact windows. The quote of $950.00 I
received seemed reasonable enough at the time since I expected it to be a
serious undertaking. I gave a deposit of $400 at their request with
the rest due on completion. I was able to redeem a $50.00 coupon from
their website making the total cost $900.00. On the date agreed for the
work to be performed (4-6-15) the team of two showed up just before
noon when I had expected them first thing in the morning. They were on
the job for less than three hours when they said they were finished. In
the interim one technician left for a short time to get more paper
towels and some drinks. I was surprised to see that the job took less
than 3 hours for $900.00 and that the level of effort was nowhere what I
had expected. I did discuss this with the company owner (Ms Jablonski aka Kegel))
the next day and got told about their cost of workers comp, the Dow
certification of their technicians, etc. I was appalled that a 3 hour
job could cost $900 even allowing for the cost of Vulkem sealant (their
marked up price is nearly $18.00 per tube). A number of stainless steel
screws were used to replace existing screws and install screws where
none existed. So even allowing $200 (a generous allowance) for materials this equates to $700
for labor broken down to less than 6 man-hours. This is almost $120.00
an hour. Are these guys surgeons or lawyers? I could not get a good
answer when I questioned the owner about the breakdown of their labor
rate and the cost of materials. I guess it's whatever they choose to
charge. The worst part is that the job was rushed and was completely
sloppy and unprofessional for the work of so called "Dow certified"
technicians. I question their certification and their quality control
methods. And Vulkem (brand name of the sealant) is NOT a DOW product
and requires other standards for application. Sealant was smeared over
my window frames and short of removing it tediously (requiring a harsh
chemical) I am forced to paint over the mess and the uneven lines of the
caulk still remain presenting a very unsightly appearance. Caulk was
applied over dirt with no effort to clean the surfaces or to make it
neat with the use of tape to avoid a mess. No effort was made to
determine the source of the leaks. Caulk was just applied everywhere in a
very haphazard manner. They cleaned nothing in the way of excess
sealant where it did not belong. It is taking me more time to fix this
mess than it took for them to do it. Two screen mounts were also
slightly damaged in the process. After my discussion with the owner,
which was cordial, is when I discovered the next day the absolute mess
of my job when I went to wash windows, replace the screens and look at
how much paint I would need to tidy up the trim. I was disgusted to the
point that I took pictures and sent them along with a letter directly
to the owner. I have to date received no response. Naively I expected a
response with perhaps some partial refund for the mess or maybe a visit
from a quality control person or supervisor to survey it. I received
no phone call or any written contact. Customer service is surely
lacking here. I would not use this company again and I caution others to avoid them.
A formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau went unanswered twice and was closed as "not resolved". Additionally A picture of their work was posted on YELP.

Task 1- $500. The work went well but was way over priced. Took about 1.5 hours and no material cost except for a little caulk. That's a rate of over $325 per hour.
.
Task 2- $250. The door when they finished putting on the new hinge was dragging on the tile floor and would not open a full swing before the old closer stopped it.. I was told the old closer could not be adjusted and I needed a new one and was quoted $350 to do a new closer. I did not have them do that. The next day I had a local maintenance person adjust the old closer and door for $50. Works fine now.
.
Task 3- $210. The original task was to replace the door rollers and install a snap track. They had a problem with the snap track and damaged the end. At that point I decided I didn't need the rollers and the snap track worked ok even with the damaged end. I left it at that and paid it off at $210. The original quoted price for the track and rollers was $391.
I was some what to blame as I didn't wait for a written quote before having them do the work. I had a limited time in which the work had to be done. They were supposed to have faxed a quote but didn't.
The technician on the job was professional and polite. He tried to make it right but ran out of time.
The sales person who quoted the job over sold the job and would not listen to reason after wards. Kept making excuses for the problems and not excepting any responsibility for the problems.
The company does appear to have years of experience which is needed for many technical jobs and to some degree you pay for that. You be the judge.
