Roofing
Stay far away from this company. What should have been a stress free and quick job, turned into a complete nightmare. Below is a synopsis of the entire process: Rich with Elite promised that his company would handle all of the permitting, as well as handling the ARC approval process with our HOA. Long story short, as much as I was a go-between from Elite and our HOA, I felt that I should have been on Elite's payroll. All in all, it took close to 2 months to get ARC approval. ARC approved the project just prior to Hurricane Irma coming through our area (Palm City). Rich had sent me an email on the morning of 9/5/17 that they were proceeding with tear off. I did not receive the email until 9:40 that morning (I was at work). Had Rich called for verbal confirmation, I would have told him to delay the job post hurricane. By the time I received notification, much of the old roof was torn off. Rich assured my wife and I that the job would be completed prior to the Hurricane's arrival. On 9/7/17, as we were preparing the home for the storm, shingles were delivered to our home. Rich stated that half of his crew did not show up (probably because there was a hurricane coming), and that he would not be able to complete the job prior to arrival of the storm. They were able to get the barrier onto the roof, and ratcheted down the pallets of shingles in our driveway. We had to ride through the storm with only the secondary barrier as protection. As we rode out the storm, leaks developed, and we had many wet spots throughout our ceiling (we took many photos). We were terrified throughout the storm that there was going to be a massive water leak that would cause much damage. The next day, Rich came out and assessed the water damage and stated they would take care of it. To their credit, they came out with a moisture meter and checked all locations for residual moisture, as well as painting our ceilings. Work progressed, and the shingles went up. Unbeknownst to us, Elite failed to have Martin County inspect the secondary barrier prior to applying the shingles to the roof, so the roof failed the final inspection. We had to have an engineer certify the roof, and file that with Martin County in lieu of an actual inspection. Lastly, Elite hired out the installation of the new gutters to another contractor. We came home to our water supply turned off. Apparently, during the installation, some material fell onto the water supply piping at the house. Water was going everywhere, and the contractor decided to leave with water going everyone (this was all witnessed by my next-door neighbor, who was nice enough to shut our water off after they left). We had to have a plumber come out after hours to repair. Again, we took pictures (before the plumbing repair) with pieces of PVC everywhere. We had Rich come out the next day to give an explanation, which seemed to annoy him. All he could muster was "what do you want me to do about it?" He offered to have the contractor come out apologize personally, but he could not answer why they left the damage without notifying anyone, or attempting to shut the water off. The cost of plumbing repair was deducted from the final invoice, but that does not help the stress that was caused by this, nor does it help explain why someone would leave a site in that condition. I know this is quite a read, but it needed to be said. It took a while for me to draft this review, as I have had been fuming for months about this entire process. I have finally learned to move on from this, but I still can't help but feel we were duped in a way. Let our story be a warning to everyone. All and all this could have been avoided with some communication, and some common sense (who starts a job before a hurricane?). Stay far away from this company. They may have a competitive price, but you will pay more in stress and headaches if you use them.
