wonderful experience there! Our boxer puppy is a very energetic loving puppy
which often made it too much for us to handle training along with running
around with our 2yr old. After she stayed at Breedmaster dog training she came
home a new dog.
She knows all the tools and fundamentals they
taught her and us. She has not once had an accident in our since she's been
home. Because of Breedmaster dog training we can now enjoy our home and our
puppy. The owners Lisa and Larry could not have been more easier to work with.
Very pleased!
It went horribly. I attempted to contact the company yesterday & I spoke with Lisa (the owner or owners wife). I was told that the contract was broken & that I am in default. She told me that my daughter signed a contract but she never left a copy of this "contract". I asked her to mail me a copy of the contract. I would like a refund of $700 because I paid $875 total & they only came out twice & the third time they were asked to leave. They were very snotty & nasty people to deal with & no work was done!
UPDATE AS OF 7/31/15: In response to the provider's reply to my review; the statements made are completely false.
UPDATE AS OF 8/3/15: The dog is doing excellent with the new trainer. The rocking on the chair did not cause any trouble for her. Our house is not filthy it is simple mistakes which any puppy has. Also, it takes time and extensive training to train a service dog which they never gave us the time needed anyways. He does not even know the definition of service dog.
"Before we even started training Treadwell, your daughter made several comments about getting her money back. You never had any intension of paying us, she wanted Treadwell trained for free. The definition of a Dog Trainer is a “Teacher” of the Dog and Person. We were hired to train Treadwell the Sheltie to eventually become a Service Dog for your daughter, who lives alone, that makes him her dog. She signed the paperwork, you Sir were never at any of the lessons, we have never met you, therefore, you really have no right to lodge this complaint. I also was never snotty or nasty with you, I was respectful every time we spoke. You were the one yelling and being disrespectful. Telling me my husband was fired for giving Treadwell kisses and not OBAYING your daughter. Again, we are the trainers here, not your daughter. She kept saying that giving a dog kisses leads to jumping. While the truth is lack of training and starvation of affection causes desperation for affection and jumping! We have been training dogs most of our lives and sometimes have apprentices working with us. Who are the people that were with Larry, which was considerably advantageous, because we now have 2 witness to the filthy conditions your daughter is living in and Treadwells treatment. They went with Larry because It took 2 people the train Treadwell, your daughter would not join in on the training. She would only sit in her rocking chair and rock. The only problem was, the last 2 lessons, Treadwell never came out of his crate, so, no way to give him any kisses. The lessons were not being scheduled during his 15 minutes a day he was allowed out of his crate, even though she was the one to set the appointments. The lessons consisted of them, the trainers, sitting there watching her rock in her rocking chair while she kept telling Larry he couldn’t kiss or touch Treadwell. She seemed fixated on that, as are you I must say. Let me reiterate, a dog cannot be trained without being touched. Also let me remind you, she wanted him service dog trained. We continued to explain to her, that what she was doing to Treadwell was not conducive to the service dog training she wanted and in truth was abusive. A Shetland Sheepdog is 1) a herding dog, high energy and 2) one of the most intelligent dogs. Keeping it caged so long and not giving it love, attention and fulfilling his need to run and herd is abusive! The main thing is part of service dog testing is the dog must sit and allow a stranger to pet him! He’ll never pass a Service Dog test. She would not let anyone but herself touch him and only for 15 minutes a day. No love and affection at all! We have started the paperwork to have her charged with animal Cruelty and are considering sending a professional to witness your daughters living conditions. She needs professional help!"
"I am trying to understand this complaint, the complainant is not upset with the training; she is upset with the fact that the trainer was late. Being this is a family owned and operated business, unfortunately things come up, like clients calling with problems, traffic, lessons running over time, ect; At that time we only had 1 trainer, so, yes there were times he was running late, or not feeling well and unable to make the training, so we would have to reschedule. All of our other clients understand this, not this one obviously. We tried to fix this situation, but she would not accept any of our offers. All she wanted was her money back, or in truth, free training. She had been in training for 6 weeks, so there are no refunds, the dog was trained. I am very sorry if I had a bad attitude. It is very difficult to try to talk to someone and they didn’t want to hear anything you have to say. The sad thing is, a client that started around the same time still brings her dog to our group class, just to stay in practice. There was no reason for Baci’s training to end, the complainant ended it! We are a referral based business, meaning we strive to make all of our clients happy, so that they tell everyone they know about us. That’s how we get new clients! Unfortunately, there are just some people out there, that no matter how hard you try, you just can’t make them happy!"
The puppy was not ready at the two week mark, but I asked if I could drop off the puppy's Heartgard. I brought over my entire family to see our puppy on Saturday, Feb. 2. Larry's wife Lisa presented our dog as Larry was not available. The dog however, was out of control. Our dog jumped on our car, on myself, my wife and would not sit when commanded two or three times. The puppy was also bleeding from the right-side corner of her lip. We all drove home believing that our dog was not being trained at all and was perhaps being neglected. Finally, on Wednesday, Feb. 13th, I was able to pick up my puppy following 24 days of training - a much longer period of time than planned. Upon my arrival, the dog was obediently sitting in Larry's driveway with Larry as handler. Larry demonstrated how my dog would sit and stay and how she would do a down/stay. I noticed that my dog was very timid and afraid and that she only followed Larry's commands about 2/3rd's of the time. Larry suggested that I try these two basic commands. The dog responded to me about 50% of the time. Larry was quick to blame me - the handler. Larry also said that my dog was just a puppy, and puppies forget. Larry also viewed himself as generous as he gave me the prong collar he used on my puppy.
Once at home, the dog smelled very bad and her crate was rusty. That night, I purchased flea spray and sprayed the dog and the crate. The dog had to be housed in the garage that night as she smelled awful. I actually needed to take off from work the next day to sanitize the crate and have the dog professionally bathed. I believe the dog was outside for a good part of those 24 days, although I cannot know for certain. Breedmaster failed to perform the most basic training, and in fact, my dog regressed as she had prior training at both PetSmart and training with a private trainer in home. I selected Breedmaster based on price and location. Yesterday, Larry Silvey cancelled his appointment to show up at our home to provide follow-up in-house training as his wife called with the excuse that he was bitten by a spider. Larry Silvey has made no attempt to provide an explanation of training provided, commands taught or changed behaviors. At no time during the 24 day period did Larry contact me himself. Instead, he would have his wife call. On Feb. 19, I finally did receive a certificate for Puppy Training from Breedmaster Training. But our puppy completed puppy training at PetSmart for $110 a month earlier and I paid for Advanced Obedience Training.
I am currently working with my dog trying to re-teach her commands she had forgotten at Breedmaster. I have also hired a new trainer who concurs that a placing a prong collar on puppies for training purposes is inhumane.
"To whom it may concern after 25 years in the dog training business, I have learned many things about dogs and people. One of the most important things is that I must be able to train the dogs and the human owners. That being said, if the humans in the dog’s family are all not on the same page with the commands and the dog training techniques, the dog will become confused and the training will not be consistent which confuses the dog. Before I start training a dog, we will schedule an evaluation with the dog and the family to see and talk about: a) What are the family’s goals b) Is the family willing to commit to the time it takes to be trained c) Cost and what program they wish to enroll in d) Are the goals realistic and practical e) Is the dog eligible: temperament, age, health and condition of the dog etc. f) Techniques used and methods of training After the evaluation and the consultation is complete, the client will either sign up for school or not, depending upon my decision of enrollment and the family’s decision to use me as their trainer and teacher. “See attached Contracts and Agreements” When member enrolled he dropped off a list of expectations we went over them together and decided that his dog Coco was too young and that in time when she was ready after completing Advanced Obedience she would be ready for off leash obedience and become a push button dog. See a list of client’s expectations attached. I explained to member that we must teach the family how to properly correct and prevent bad behavior. He replied good luck teaching my wife and children who I had never met to this point in time. After training thousands of dogs and humans it just takes time and it cannot be done in two weeks on a young dog such as Coco. If I cancel a lesson, we promptly reschedule a new appointment. If the client does not respond we try again. You can plan the picnic but not the weather. Things happen. Just move on and continue and finish what you started. We have thousands of happy clients and referrals way before Angie’s List was invented and before the BBB. All of our referrals and repeat clients continue to refer us and our training. The work on the dog was done. Now it is up to the client to take advantage of the training lesson until satisfied. See attached agreements."
