We recently purchased condo as a rental property and the tenant reported that the A/C was running nonstop. The cooling was OK but the on/off switch on the thermostat would not turn the blower off. I called a HVAC contractor (on the recommendation of a third party) and placed a service call to diagnose the problem and give his recommendation on a course of action. He said that the A/C had a variable speed blower motor and the motor circuit board were defective and needed to be replaced. The repair work would cost approximately $2000.00. Upon receiving that news I called "Jeff's Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc." for a second opinion of a problem with the A/C and Jeff went to the condo the following day. The findings from his visit were: 1. The blower motor is a single speed and working properly. 2. The fan run relay was defective and needed to be replaced. 3. The newly installed UV lights were not operating, although line voltage was present. Jeff replaced the relay for a total bill of $187.00 and now the A/C is operating normally. The UV lights are covered under a warranty provided by the contractor that did that installation and Jeff did not attempt to repair the lights. The first contractor gave a quote of $2000.00+ to do a simple job that when all was said and done cost only $187.00. Jeff's HVAC is a verified RACCA Member "... WHAT IS RACCA?
