Layman Well Drilling are seasoned professionals, and they take no short cuts. Got three bids for a deep (artesian) well. Our shallow irrigation well had failed, and switching to a deep well eliminate rust staining. Layman?s bid was not the lowest (but not a lot higher than the lowest) Ricki Layman (owner?s son) was an open communicator and helped understand the process and what type of well we?d get. And we believe we were very well compensated for price difference. Layman was the only one to quote a 3 inch (vs. 2 inch). If the Florida Aquifer loses pressure, a submersible pump will not fit into a 2? well. And (learned later) most other drillers if digging a 3? well, the 3? casing only extends down to where the casing hits the rock layer above the aquifer and from there down it's only a 2" dimeter hole (a stepped well) which limits total water flow. Our water flow is simply outstanding, gusher with strong pressure. Drilling crew (Denis and Lloyd ) arrived on time with rig and water truck. For a moment taken aback that Ricki was not with them but quickly Denis and Lloyd gained our full confidence with care taken to protect driveway and lawn from the rig?s huge weight, using thick rubber mats. They took their time assuring perfect placement. During the day and half operation both paid full focused attention and worked together in very coordinated way. A pleasure having true professionals doing this job. When they left with the rig our yard was surprisingly clean, just a few areas where grass was matted down from weight of the rig (grass since recovered). Five days later the only ?evidence? is a narrow strip of exposed dirt from well head to the pump house where the line was trenched in. Easy fix for me.
