When I use the rubber house on the deck pieces of concrete flys all over. Soon more finish will be off the deck than what is on the deck. When friends ask what happened her believe me I give them a ear full about Michael Peyton and tell them to spread the word.
Initial work went very well. However, on the days that I was present for the work, I did not see any sign of Mike. On one day, an employee showed up to work with a baby in tow. I felt so bad for him that I cared for the baby for some time. Much of the day, he was not working as he was caring for the baby. The final color/finish did not happen until Sunday. I let Mike know that I was not happy with the color of the coping around the pool (not enough contrast with the rest of the deck). It did start to sprinkle a little so Mike said he could not finish that day. The sprinkles only lasted 10 mins, so the job certainly could have been finished that day.
Mike and his crew finished the job on Monday. According to my phone records, they attempted to call me (once) that morning, but I was in meetings all day and was unable to take calls. They went ahead with the final finish without me present to approve final coloring.
When I got home Monday, I was near tears as the coping coloring was beyond ugly. I was happy that Mike remembered to drill drain holes in the edges where I previously had drainage problems. I took a day to calm down and when I spoke with Mike, I told him I was unhappy with the color. He insisted that it would take "such a lot of work" to remediate and what I got was exactly what he did on his own personal deck. I think if I had really pushed it, he would have done something, but it was obvious that his heart was not in making me content with what I purchased, but more on closing the deal and getting his paycheck. I did pay the balance (at this point, I am in a position where I have to choose my battles) and have decided to either learn to live with it or hire another company to remediate.
Additional factors that influenced my decision are that:
1) Mike insisted his men would clean the pool and pool filter after the work. After the job was done, the bottom of my pool still looked like a sand dune and my pool service has come 3 times in 7 days to get everything back to normal
2) Around my pool filter area, there is overspray/debris concrete material that is dryed and cannot be cleaned off.
3) Same as above, but on my pool floats (the expensive covered foam type).
There were good reviews for other than pool deck jobs for this company on Kudzo but I wish I would have asked for references on pool deck jobs. I probably would have hired another company.
UPDATE: The surface is now peeling in several areas - there is no way this surface would withstand pressure washing. I will definitely be hiring another company (and doing more homework before doing so) to resurface my pool deck.
