Prior to starting the job, he required us to deposit $900 cash into his account to pay for materials. We were home on Saturday when he started the job but were not in the area when he finished. Once the job was finished he sent us an invoice for $1975, $175 more than the price we agreed on. When we finally reached him to ask why the increase, he stated it was because the materials were more expensive than he expected. However, he agreed to reduce the price to $1800, then was very insistent that we again deposit $900 cash into his account even though we had the opportunity to look at the work. We wanted to wait until the weekend (4 days later) to look at the job before final payment. However, after numerous insistent phone calls, we agreed to deposit this amount.
When we arrived at the location and looked at the screen porch, we realized there were several problems. John used the cheapest materials available, and the screening does not look very nice. In addition, there is more than a 2 inch gap between the bottom of the screen door and the floor, which allows insects and small animals to crawl into the enclosure. He is going to return to correct this problem.
