After 3 bids we went with Superior Fence and Rail (Sarasota) to have a 79 ft length of fence and gate removed and replaced with James being the installer. The work was scheduled nearly two weeks out. Not thrilled, but understood there were others before me. I'll spare you some of the details of the problems that began the second day after tear down and haul the first day. Some of the things we did deal with included showing up with only half the materials blaming someone else, bogus reasons he couldn't dig a shallow, very short trench at one end that would have left the fence quite noticeably uneven which he didn't have fix for, but did have a lackadaisical attitude about (I mention it because he also had no qualms watching my son do his job without problem (shameful) so I'd have an even fence line), not showing up several times when he said he would, having to track him down, hearing one reason after another for not being here, the really shoddy work that absolutely needed to be fixed and not making the time to get to it, putting blame on the company for the reason the gate looked like a total mess, etc. The typical things people go through with many contractors that are cause for concern. Barring any real problems this is a job that should have taken 3 days at most. After approaching nearly two weeks of this my husband called and was able to reach the owner who informed him that James had been let go that day and they'd be here two days from then to finish it. After getting the run around and being handed bs for more than a week, concerned this would never be made right and the horror stories out there about contractors, I was feeling leery of taking the word of anyone from this company and wanted an exact time to expect the new crew. I called the office and spoke with JoAnna. She expressed regret and explained that they were backed up since letting James go. Had it not been for what had already transpired I would have had empathy, understanding and patients for their situation. I was beyond that and had a, that's not my problem attitude, giving her a laundry list of what would happen if they were not here at the time promised and assured us they would be. My frustration was showing and I half expected push back from it, but JoAnna remained calm and pleasant. The new crew arrived as promised, very late in the day, 6:30. I could see they were tired, probably hungry and just wanting to get home to their families. Yet, they listened patiently while we pointed out the problems and what we wanted for the gate and took the time to have a real conversation until we were all on the same page. They made it a point to let us know whatever we wanted they would make happen (as did JoAnne). After checking on and watching them a few times it was clear they knew what they were doing. Being so late in the day they were not able to finish and had to come back the next morning ahead of a big job awaiting them and they did not cut corners here to get there. They were so pleasant, understanding, hard working and professional I had no problem trusting they'd be back when they said they would. My husband and I were very pleased with the final result of the gate (its only been a day so hopefully it'll stand up to their hard work). The bottom line is that in the end, Carlos, the owner and JoAnna (maybe his wife?) kept their word so I would say give them a chance. I would highly recommend them if you are able to get Philippe, Jorge and Eduardo for your installation crew. They were great.
