I've been taking my car to Sears Auto Center for just about three years now, and I can give compliments about the quality of the service. Highly professional. Prices are competitive. I just print the coupons off the Sears website for services I need - they will even take a coupon right off a smart phone, which is super convenient. They will also price-match package deals from their competitors on tire sales with a printed estimate (I have done this before and gotten a must better deal!)
I really love the mechanics - they always take the time to explain things to me and will even take me out to my car in the shop when it is up on the lift and actually show me the specific issue that needs to be addressed without making me feel uneducated. This is great as a woman because while I'm definitely not clueless - I don't always know exactly what they're talking about.
I especially like two of the mechanics, Jay and Harold (who has been there almost 40 years!). These guys really know their stuff! The best thing is that they will do the job right. I have even once had them refer me elsewhere (dealer or a specialist they recommended) when it was something that they couldn't handle there at their auto shop, instead of trying to do it themselves to make the sale when they were not qualified. So, they are very honest. I respect that.
The sales people will always give me recommendations when my car needs additional service, but they don't pressure me to do it. Usually, it's just recommendations based on my mileage for regular maintenance, which is good because I will sometime forget what services I should get and when. If it's really serious, they will let me know.
They have done a large amount of work on the two cars I have owned in the time I've been using them (new tires, brakes, alignment, transmission flush, A/C recharge and replacement of parts, belts, engine mounts, as well as regular oil changes) and they always guarantee their work with a warranty, but I have never had any issues (other than a belt that needed re-tightening, which I understand is fairly normal).
Yes, sometimes it takes a few hours for service if they are busy (especially on the weekends). This is true. Don't go there expecting to be in-and-out in an hour. But honestly, I'd rather any mechanic do the job right and take their time than to rush it. I just drop the car off and go shop, wander the mall, take my kid to see a movie, etc. They tell me about the time to expect the job to be finished and will send me a text message when it's done. Easy!
All in all, I can highly recommend them for their honesty and quality of work.
