Ocean Aire failed inspection by Sarasota County TWICE!! This company is now refusing to come out and fix what Sarasota County inspector failed. I have repairs needed because Ocean Aire installed my new air conditioning unit incorrectly and failed inspection and now they are saying to bad we are not coming out and fixing the problem for inspection to pass properly. Brandy in the inspection department could not be more rude and treats customers horrible especially if they failed inspection. I will be filling complaints with Sarasota County Inspection department. I will be filing a compliant with Better Business Bureau. I will continue to file complaints so this company does not do this to anyone else! Giving them even one star is to many.. find another company that stands behind their work.

Ocean Aire Conditioning I had Ocean-Aire Conditioning (OAC) install a new heat pump system in June 2016. They were recommended by our neighbors because they had just gotten a new AC unit the year before. They said, “They gave us the best price.” Well a couple years ago, they found out OAC had’t installed the more expensive energy efficient system they had paid for but a much cheaper one. They told us, “We felt cheated”. Our neighbors have since apologized to my wife and I several times for ever recommending OAC, and here’s why. OAC installed a new heat pump & cooling system for my wife and I in June 2016 base on my neighbor’s recommendation at the time. From day one, the system seemed to have problems. As soon as the system was turned on, the air flow through the overhead air intake louvers made a loud whistling and the sound of loud pouring rain. I never had these loud noises with my old air conditioning system. I asked the technician several times if the airflow could be turned down or if there was a different louver system to cut down on the whistling & rain noises. His response was, “There is no way to reduce the air flow. That is how the more energy heat pump system works.” I told him, “Really! Why wasn’t I told this before? Nobody wants to live with that loud noise 24/7. Well how about seeing if there is a different air intake louver system?“ He called back a week later and said, “You’ll just have to live with it because I looked at other intake overhead louvers and there aren’t any.” I suggested, “How about straightening all the louvers? That might help with the whistling noise?” His response, “We can’t do that.” After he left, I personally took the air intake louver frame down. I spent a good 2 hours slowly straightening out each and every louver and then reinstalled it overhead. It totally eliminated the whistling but we’ve been stuck with the loud rain noise ever since. I also asked at the time, why OAC hadn’t installed a thermostat like my old system had? The one OAC installed was a very basic and really cheap. It only controlled the temperature of the unit. My old one had outside temp, humidity and the temperature of the inside. He advised me, “They don’t make one compatible for your Lenox unit.” I couldn’t believe it. I went online and researched thermostats and called him back. He said, “I’ll get back to you.” On 20 June 2016, they installed an upgraded Honeywell Wifi thermostat which cost me another $440.00. Not ONCE from the time that OAC installed the system and spending over $6500.00 did anyone call me from the company to ask, “How’s your system working?” or “Are you happy with the system we installed?” or “Would you like for us to do yearly maintenance?” NOTHING!!! I wouldn’t be writing this review if I hadn’t had another AC company do maintenance on my unit August 2020. That company found MAJOR problems with the installation job that OAC had done back in June 2016. They explained to me, “These MAJOR problems are easy repairs but wasn’t sure how a company installing a new unit could miss these problems”. The first MAJOR problem was the inside of the air exchanger in the garage. The technician said, “There are holes along several creases that weren’t sealed up. Because of these holes, the unit was cooling the garage and costing me $30-40/month because they weren’t sealed up properly. The technician had me put my hands around the air exchanger and I could feel the cold air coming out. The second MAJOR problem was these air holes to the outside let moisture come in and over time lead to the development of BLACK MOLD forming on the inside. Thus blowing mold spores throughout our home. My wife and I had noticed that whenever the AC had come on in the past, both of us would sneeze and our eyes watered. The third MAJOR problem was the box that the new heat pump was to sit on should of been resealed (plastered, primer paint and painted) to prevent it from moisture. OAC hadn’t done this either. I personally just finished doing this project myself. The fourth MAJOR problem was the Freon was unusually low for a unit only 4 years old. The technician I hired from another company said, “Either you had a leak (which I never found) or the company that who installed your new unit, short changed you”. I called OAC and told the receptionist who answered about the holes, the moisture, mold and poor installation. She said, “we haven’t seen you seen 2017. We are not responsible for any of these problems. You got a one year warranty”. I said, “I wouldn’t be having these problems if OAC had installed the unit properly in the first place. Your technicians left holes in my air exchanger, which led to mold growing and was costing me an additional $30-40/month on my electrical bill since June 2017.” She responded, “You only get a one year warranty. After that, any problems found is on you!”. They advertise that they are “Veteran Owned”. Well both my wife are retired military and we are both veterans. All we can say, “It’s no way treat fellow Veterans let alone any customer.” I know we will never do business with “Ocean-Aire Conditioning” again. Any trust my neighbor’s, my wife or I had in Ocean-Aire Conditioning has been shattered. I think it’s obvious that we will never recommend them to anyone. I hired another company to resolve all the Major problems. My energy bill has gone down! My air-condition is running less frequently! My wife and I aren’t sneezing and our eyes don’t run as much.
Response from Ocean Aire Conditioning Inc

"Mr. Steirer, I am sorry, but I must disagree with your statement. your unit installation was completed on 6/1/2016. We pulled a Hillsborough County permit, the unit’s final inspection was performed, signed off and APPROVED on 8/1/2016. The inspection would have never been approved if there were air leaks on the system. As for not following up, we came to your residence on 5/2/2017 and performed a courtesy 11-month inspection where we flushed the drain and installed the Wi-Fi thermostat to the network, a maintenance policy was offered for future service but was not accepted. We have not been back at the home since 5/2/2017 through routine maintenance should be performed annually, it is up to the customer if they do not have the policy to have this done. Our labor warranty expired on 6/1/2017 we explained to Mr. Steirer we would be happy to come out and seal anything he likes; however, the labor warranty was over. The unit was not leaking when we performed the complimentary 11-month inspection. We should not be expected to be responsible for air leaks that may have happened 4 years after the installation. The other company that came to his home was there to make money. If Mr. Steirer had called us for routine maintenance any minor repair leaks would have been repaired without any additional charge, we recently received an award recognizing us as the top HVAC Company in Sun City Center."

I hate to give such bad grades after seeing so many "A's" but I did not feel that the tech was telling me the truth and was more concerned about selling me a new unit. The tech was here on time and, after a cleaning, told me the evaporator was plugged up with mold, restricting air flow, and it would cost $1000 to remove and clean properly and since it was an 8 year old unit I should just buy a new unit. He said the unit would continue to run for awhile, but would draw more and more electricity. I did not trust his appraisal of the situation so called a second company who came the next day and added freon and the unit is running perfectly.
