That Sharpening Guy

Kenny really impressed me with both his ability to sharpen  knives and his desire that his customers be pleased.  When I brought him my machetes, one of which had not yet been sharpened, he told me up front that he has lots of experience sharpening knives of all types but that sharpening machetes was new for him.  He said that he wasn't sure what the best edge would be, but he would do his best.  If I wasn't happy, I should come back and he would work on it until I was happy. 

I have a lot of experience using machetes and when I worked with the newly sharpened machetes in my yard, they weren't quite right.  I took them back the next week, explained what I didn't like and Kenny then sharpened them perfectly.  I'm really glad to have someone who now knows how to sharpen machetes and you can be sure I'll go back.

Another plus with Kenny - he has a high respect for and gratitude towards our military personnel.  I had my nephew, who is in active service in the Navy, with me one day and Kenny sharpened his knife for him for free.  That is his common practice.

My wife says that most women put up with terribly dull knives and she feels sorry for them.  She says it is so nice to have sharp knives.  Want a happy wife?  Take her knives to Kenny and get them sharpened!

I have a modest collection of good kitchen knives, and have always been hesitant to dive in on the whole whetstone self-sharpening thing.  A quick Google search brought me to That Sharpening Guy, Kenny.  At first I decided to take my knives to him in Sanford, but then saw that he sets up shop weekly at the Good Neighbor Farmer's Market in Winter Garden/Oviedo.  Talk about the perfect combination!  Arrived, found Kenny (in the barn), dropped off the knives and then had a spirited conversation about cooking and recipes and all things culinary.  Left the knives with Kenny and then wandered around the charming farm for about an hour.  Petted some sweet animals in the petting farm area, picked up some fresh produce, and enjoyed the music of the live band.  An hour later, I had perfect sharp knives and bags full of goodies.  Kenny is a master sharpener and really took his time making my knives razor sharp, even the serrated ones.  I will be a loyal customer and will send all of my friends to him.
