We got the name of Wall2Walls Construction, Inc. from Service Magic and after several proposals, decided to hire them to build a second floor addition and remodel a kitchen, bathroom and closet. Douglas Byrd was the salesman/Construction Manager, and CJ Walls, his son-in-law, was the General Contractor. We were familiar with both gentlemen through common interests. We had to pay 1/4 of the cost of the addition as down payment and then worked on a draw system as the work progressed. Problems arose immediately with the winter weather - rains and wind - which blew tarps off our roofless house causing flooding in the first floor and damage to drywall in rooms that were not in the proposal, damage to items in the garage and kitchen from their ceilings falling in - repair cost for all these damaged areas would be at the contractor's expense and it was sizable. Questions started arising when Notices of Lien were received. In February we questioned why they were not doing something to keep the rains out of the house and they argued it was our responsibility to put a new roof on the existing home and put flashing onto the new addition.. When their roofer was to put a roof on the new addition, he told us that he would no longer work for Wall2Walls because they still owed him over $9000 for previous jobs. We were up a creek without a paddle! We finally hired the roofer ourselves, had a new roof put on the existing home and flashing to close in the addition - this was at our expense and not through the contract with the contractor. At this point, we were having meetings with the General Contractor, requesting the Construction Manager be in attendance as well and the Project Manager, but Doug Byrd never showed his face to us. It wasn't until May that we found out that Doug Byrd had never paid the subcontractors, was not paying his workers, had left his son-in-law to carry the burden of Doug's theft,; he dropped out of the picture. On 20 May 2011, Wall2Walls Construction went out of business. In the course of this project we found out the person who drew up our plans was not an architect but a draftsman; the men that did the grunt work did a pretty good job, in general, but in following the plans, many errors were found by the inspectors; framing was not done correctly in some of the areas, and work stood still for several months until I was able to get a new general contractor. We have had to pay contractors for work that was done, that we already had paid Doug Byrd through draws, so it was double the cost. It's August; most of the errors have been rectified, and we are finally moving forward. No longer do we have to suffer in our home with the 50 degree temps in the winter and the high 90 degree temps this summer. After eight months, the house was finally closed in and the air is on! I don't know how complicit CJ Walls was in the dealings of his father-in-law, Douglas Byrd, but he had to have known the money wasn't being paid to the subcontractors and workers. My concern is that Douglas Byrd and CJ Walls will start another company with a different name and continue their illegal work. Be aware!

Built the addition and completed rough framing. Change orders paid for change in windows, door and lighting (changes didn't happen), Dry-in of new roof sheathing, but no flashing caused water leakage into existing home.
