I really struggled with Tommy Todd’s team for managing my overall project. Communication was lacking, they were unwilling to accept responsibility and/or even apologize for mistakes that were made and details that were over looked. Their inability to provide true project management as promised resulting in me feeling very taken advantage of. A portion of the project was not completed (a fire pit) as discussed and no option to remedy the concern was entertained. They tried to collect final payment multiple times before the work was done or a walk through occurred and they gave me a hard time when I challenged that. During the project, I was never contacted by my so called project manager. I never saw him visit the work site (my backyard) and he made no attempt to provide updates as the work occurred. Water was left running for hours more than once causing an increased water bill for me. I mentioned it and was told the concern would be addressed and it continued to happen. Items were drawn into the plan but not articulated clearly on the contract resulting in additional cost to me. This seemed intentional. After the project, trash was left on site and I was never presented a finished/polished project. A cable wire became loose during the project and instead of fixing it; it was left draped across the back of the house, buried and covered with landscaping mulch. It looked awful, eventually they fixed that but not without extended effort and energy on my part. I was told my yard would be leveled but instead I now have big truck tire ruts, large divots, dips and depressions all over making it difficult to mow the yard. When I shared my final project concerns with Tommy Todd, he got frustrated as he realized his employee mislead me creating a difficult situation and walked away from me instead of finding resolution. I asked about weed control when initially discussing the project and was assured the project would be manageable. During the project I again asked about weeds as they were already getting out of control. I was told that Tommy Todd Landscaping does not believe in using weed block or sealing between the stone pavers in the patio project. I was not aware of this and now pick weeds every day to manage a decent look for the space. It would have been easier if I laid my own mulch from the beginning. This is part of the project that I now have to redue myself. When spending 75K on a project, I do not think my expectations are too high to have things done correctly. The original verbal estimate from Tommy for my project was around 55K. It is hard to understating how I ended up paying 20K more and do not have all I asked for. Overall I felt taken advantage of and am not satisfied. The work did not meet the value for what was paid.

Tommy Todd is a wonderful, kind man. He has been so helpful to me as I try to find service providers in a new town. All of his recommendations have been outstanding. Patty in the office is lovely and so helpful. The project manager Justin came up with a beautiful design and incorporated my request for lots of plant color. His team that did the removal of the old and installation of the new watering system and plants were great to have at the house. They were extremely hardworking, polite and arrived each day as scheduled. The job was completed on the date promised and we are so happy with the results. I highly recommend Tommy Todd Landscape and Design.

I signed a contract that listed specifics (1600 s feet of sod, etc.) for $5,900 with taxes according to the contract included. The company didn't call or show up the day they previously had booked with me for landscaping. I had changed my schedule that week to be home the two days they said that they would come. After complaining, they came the next day which also meant that I couldn't be at the house the second day of their work ( I wanted to be there both days to direct them and see their progress). The original bill didn't include two trees that I had requested that the owner install and I paid additionally for them ( not a problem- it was $53.00). When I got another statement from them saying I owed $6,300 and that only 1200 ft of sod had been installed. I asked them to use the additional sod that I had been promised on the contract in another area of my yard. I was then told that the contract I signed was only an "estimate" and that it didn't mean I would be receiving everything on it nor at that price. I stupidly paid the bill and then started asking them to replace two plants that were not doing well in the yard. They have a 90 guarantee for all plants. I emailed them about the plants four times and sent pictures. I called them on the phone and was told that someone would be out to replace them. This went on for more than a month with no one showing up. I then asked about my sod again and was told that they would replace the area I wanted for an additional $600.00 ( it was a fairly small area around my mailbox). Had I been there the second day of their work I would have made sure that this area was addressed but the contract stated that they would determine what areas of the yard required sod and what areas were damaged.
I was so disgusted at this point that I told them not to worry about replacing any plants and that I would take care of it myself. I would caution anyone working with them to have detailed conversations about a time line (which they may ignore anyway) and specifics on the costs and work that they were going to do and if additional costs could be assessed without being listed in the contract.
Response from TOMMY TODD LANDSCAPE & DESIGN
"Unfortunately [member name removed] did not present the correct information that we have documented with our proposals and invoices. The original contract was for landscaping as per the plan, transplanting a crape myrtle, trimming up her Paurotis Palm clump and called for 1600 sg ft of sod to be installed to the right of her driveway for $5941.07. Irrigation retro was to be billed at time and materials which was $203.00. She added (1) 30 gallon Weeping Yaupon Holly, (1) 7gallon Australian Tree Fern and (8) additional 1 gallon Leriopi while subtracting 1 pallet of sod (400sg ft) which gave her a new total of $6000.00 for landscape and sod plus $203 for irrigation for a grand total of $6203.00 Note she did not pay for the extra pallet of sod and the trees and plants cost her an addional $58.93 over her origianl contract.. On Moday December the 8th Barbara with my office sent her an email requesting final payment on the balance of the job and referenced the invoices that were due upon receipt and sent to her on November 28. She asked for us to do addional work as recommened by her lawn spray company to remove and replace addiotional sod on the left side of her driveway (not in our original scope of work). She also asked us to move a few plants that did not allow her gate to open fully which my manager James did for her. She later said that 2 of the Bulbine were not looking good and James repalced them and noted 2 more looked weak and he would have changed them as well if he had them with him. None of these plants were dead and have grown out in our nursery but we want our new jobs to look their best. When James looked at the addional sod work with sod cutter rental, dump fees, labor and the price of the grass it was obviously more than we would have charged if this job was done when we were doing the original work. She did not like the $600 price to do the extra sod work which included all of the elements I described above. We offered last week to replace the other 2 plants and she said no because she wanted to write this inaccurate and malicious report. Last of all her job was sceduled for a specific week when she returned from a trip and we had not completed the project from the previous week and were going to start the next day. We usually call clients a day ahead if we are delayed and it was our fault for not doing so. However we are an outside construction business that is affected by weather and occasionally other contractors schedules and 99% of our clients are very polite and understanding and extremly gracious with our staff and their compliments on the services we provide. Since you folks grade our services based on hearsay, inaccurate information I think it is only fair in our rebuttal that we grade them as a client. In this case it would be an F. Sincerely, Thomas N Todd President"

"[Member Name] is not accurate with his dates, amounts or on the completion of the work we did at his home. Our first project was landscaping in his small backyard pool area in June 2007 for $3279.55 with bamboo and Palm tees. Our second project was December 2009 for $2346.50 for understory landscaping in the pool area and $10,947.00 for a new Travertine pool deck. He was still Avery satisfied customer. Our last project was re landscaping the front and left side yard and irrigation for8150.50 in April 2013. While completing this project we picked up areas of his pool pavers, cut out roots that were lifting them up, re based and sanded at no charge because he had been a good customer. When my Landscape Manager James met with Brad to walk through the job and present the invoice and collect our final 50% payment he refused to pay him as per our contract with the balance due upon completion. There was one plant on backorder that was not on his bill and the rest of the job was compete. James called me and told me he refused to pay so I called Brad and left him a message that said that was unacceptable as his job was complete except for a special order plant that was not in stock. He called me back and was offended that I called him but after our discussion he agreed to pay and James went back and collect a check. Because of his rude response to my manager and myself we assumed he no longer wanted to do business with our firm. He did not pay for the backordered plant so we were finished with his project and one of my masons spent over a half day at no charge repairing his pool deck so we were done! It seems odd to me after our long and continued working relationship to have Brad act the way he did and I regret that it ended. Thomas Todd President"

"[member name removed] are the best of customers that really appreciate our hard work. We will always go the extra mile for them. They represent the quality of clientele that we are fortunate to work with on a daily basis. That is why I still love this business and helps me overlook the few people that can never be satisfied. We look forward to completing the transformation of their backyard living space. Thanks [member name removed]! TommyTodd"

The plan was never done.  I went to see them because their designer wasn't understanding things like, "don't put a bunch of trees in front of the drive-thru fence gate", etc.  He had a drawing on the computer, but used plants we specifically stated we didn't want, we asked for it to be minimal, neat and orderly and he was working it up to be extremely busy.  Sitting down with them, we discussed the plants and I left, hoping things would improve.  That was the last contact, because we never received anything from them again, including return phone calls.  Chalk up $500 to a lesson learned.

"I met [member name removed] on three occasions to consult, to review the design and to go over her revision. She wanted to make further changes and came into our office and spent at least 2 hours with our designer to make additional changes and this was done as a courtesy because we only offer one region with no charge. After she left Warren spent another 4 hours redoing her plan and emailed her that it was completed with no response. She had to.d him before leaving our office that she would come back and pick up the revised plans which she never did. I also sent other contractors out for a screen enclosure and she ran him around as well. This is why I stopped advertising with Angie' because of the open forum for dishonest people like [member name removed]. We have been in business for 31 successful years and my son will take it for another 30+ and we work very hard to please our clients and exceed their expectations. It really bothers us when you have such a small % less than 1 that make the time to discredit a a hard working family business. I had after my first meeting declined to do a plan for [member name removed] as I was not comfortable with her intentions but she asked me to reconsider. I forgot there was two meetings prior to our 1st design review that makes four meetings. Tommy Todd"

We had to replace a large oak in our front yard and Todd provided new designs from our concept and executed the plans including extending a driveway, new plants and trees. The yard looks fine but we had several issues related to follow thru on items that we agreed to that required our additional prompting or just did not get done.
Response from TOMMY TODD LANDSCAPE & DESIGN
"I am very surprised at [member name removed] comments and grading of our service. We took extra steps to give them a larger space for a BB ball court that required remobilizing our crew with additional work at no extra charge . I had nothing but pleasant conversations with [member name removed] and I did not receive any comments about lack of followthrough or unfinished requests. I do have a designer that may have been the disconnect because he was very busy this spring and a bit overwhelmed. However I handled the sale and scheduling of the project and did I not receive any feedback. Very Surprised! Tommy Todd"

Overall was as expected.  Pricey but worth it. Did have an issue with scheduling of actual work, sprinkler system should have been assessed and corrected prior to delivery of sod, delayed one day with additional expense.  Made two call backs for correction/inspection of irrigation, was done in a timely manner.

Sod and timer were fine, as was the new irrigation section. Included in the bid was to fix and adjust all other sections of my yard. This was not done very well. The were in a hurry and did not adjust the other sprinklers as needed and promised. Did not review very well on how to use the new timer either. Overall they were rushed and not to concerned with service.

I liked that they were very efficient.  They were also very cooperative, helpful, and cleaned up after themselves.  The plant selections that they made were great. I definitely would recommend them to others.

The repair work they did on the irrigation system included fixing some broken lines and adding a few extra sprinkler heads.  I hadn't even asked them to do this but they really went above and beyond for me.

Overall, the yard looks very nice but have had to fix irrigation system a couple of times since installation. The work was done professionally. When we got our backyard landscaped later on by a different company realized that their prices was quite a bit higher for comparable work but had no complaints at the time they did the work. Mainly my complaint about Tommy Todd is their lack of communication with the customer - after the initial agreement for the work it took weeks to have the work done which wasn't a problem, just would have liked that they had contacted me and kept me in the loop about the schedule.

The workers were tireless working in July from 0700 until 1700. Eddie the foreman was accessible to us by phone 98% of the time and very courteous and respectful. It was a pleasure. A couple of shrubs didn't take and were replaced promptly as well as some of the lawn.

WE HIRED THIS COMPANY TO RELANDSCAPE OUR ENTIRE YARD. ONE INITIAL APPOINTMENT, THEY WERE ALWAYS LATE (NO PHONE CALL). THE JOB WAS COMPLETELY UNORGANIZED. A LOT OF TIME WAS WASTED WITH EMPLOYEES NOT DOING THEIR JOB AND/OR NOT KNOWING HOW TO DO THEIR JOB. TWO EMPLOYEES WERE VERY GOOD...EDDIE AND EUSEBIO. WHILE THE END PRODUCT IS VERY PRETTY, THE HASSLE WAS NOT WORTH IT!
