Tom Mair, also had a business card for President of Superior Construction, LLC. Got Toms number off a an online search for dock repair. I told him over the phone the size of the job and he said he worked by the hour at $20. Said it would probably take 3 days around $500. I told him to come and look at the job before he got started, just to make sure. Tom showed up on time, looked it all over said it would be no problem. Would like to start at 7am and get it going the next day. In conversation it turns out he lives in Sarasota and has the 941 area code and it worried me a little that he is driving all this way for a dock repair job. He said he needed the money. He went on and on how reliable he was and not to worry. He said that he would like to be paid at the end of the day for his labor. I said I didn't want to get stuck with a half done job and no reason for him not to come back. He went on again how reliable he was and I agreed to pay at the end of the day and he would sign a receipt. The next day didn't show at 7am, but called at 7:30 am and said he couldn't do the job because he had to take his wife to work. I think he was looking for any job closer to home and must have found one. Seemed like a nice guy, but would not pay him day by day. I think he would have quit half way through this job if he got a better offer somewhere else if you don't withhold at least 1 days pay.
Description of Work: He was hired to flip deck boards for a 16' X 18' dock.
