Today was probably the 5th time using Rick York at two different properties and once again his work was outstanding and his price was so low that I added extra to the check because I felt like I was ripping him off. I would definitely recommend him for any tree or brush removal as well as any standard tree trimming. Outstanding service.

We had a short timeline since our hot tub installation was moved up in the schedule. Rick was professional and prompt. His work is excellent and he left the area so tidy! Not only did he completely remove the stump, he ensured that the area around the stump, as well as all down my sidewalks, were all blown clean and were free from debris.

Everything Rick did for me, he did with surgical precision. He came right out, as he said he would, and took care of it all that day. His knowledge and honesty are unparalleled. He's in an exclusive league of top-level providers, and he charges a fair price. I received estimates from 8 companies for this work, and Rick's was by far the most fair among them. I can't say enough good things about him. I would absolutely use him again.

Showed up on time, removed a large amount of unwanted growth, noted and removed rots growing around the base of the tree that if left unattended would strangle the tree, and cleaned up very well. This is my third tree service in six years and this is the only one I would have back again.

I had a large tree in the front of my house that hadn't been trimmed in a long time. The limbs were laying on the roof when I bought the house. I trimmed the limbs away from the roof myself, but the tree was too large for me to trim back completely. Rick's Affordable Tree Service trimmed the large tree as well as 3 other trees in my yard. The trees looked great and I received compliments from my neighbors on how good it looked. I was expecting some small debris would be left in the yard, but everything was cleaned up very well. The only sign in the yard was sawdust left from the chain saws. They also provided a free estimate prior to performing the work so there were no surprises when the work was complete.

He removed the tree, and everything looked great. I was not home when the work was done. When I had another company come to plant a new tree two days later, they showed me that the stump was not in fact ground down enough to plant the new tree. It was just below the ground and needed to be at least 12 inches. When I called and finally spoke to Rick York he told me that's how it's done. I explained once again that when I hired him I made it clear to him that the stump needed to be ground so another tree could be planted in it's place. He said he did what any other company would do. Did not offer to come back to make it right. I told him he would be paid for cutting down the tree but not for the stump grinding. I have pictures to back up my claim.

"The work was completed 6-20-14. I was hired only to remove the tree and grind the stump. Standard stump removal is 6 inches below grade, plenty for placing sod for instance. There is left a small mound of grindings. As the members photo shows the tree and stump are gone and only grindings remain. The member also asked me to quote installing a new 3 inch diameter live oak to be planted in the approximate vicinity of the old tree. I quoted $400.00. The purchase of the tree from a wholesale nursery at $275.00, and $125.00 to pick up the tree, deliver it, dig the hole where she wanted the tree placed, and install. She was very happy with the job we did, removing the dead tree and grinding the stump, and offered to pay with a credit card. After her card was declined she insisted she would make sure the bill was paid A.S.A.P. The next day she called very upset that another tree company was attempting to install a new tree, and they could not dig through the roots. She would not pay the $150.00 for the stump grinding. I informed her stump grinding does not include the entire root system. I was explaining that the ground should be marked by local utility companies before digging a hole for the new tree. She abruptly hung up and has not returned any of my attempts to contact her. I certainly could come out with the stump grinder to make a whole for the new tree, but I cannot reach her. As of 7-14-14 no part of the bill has been paid for the tree removal or the stump grinding."

CUTTING DOWN THE CUBAN LAURELS
I contracted with Rick York to tackle the task of taking
down two Cuban laurel trees that were very close to my house. They were
monsters – one was 85 to 100 feet tall and the other was 45 feet. The diameter
of the trunk was at least ten feet.
I didn’t want a lot of machinery (i.e., bucket trucks)
involved. With Rick’s proficiency in using the roping method of extraction, I
didn’t have to worry about big trucks trying to navigate in my neighbor’s yard.
Rick effortlessly scaled the trees and maneuvered skillfully,
rope lowering the limbs with the help of his two assistants on the ground. The
weather was typical: high humidity and 90 degree temperatures – a sweat-a-thon.
Rick and his crew arrived around 8 o’clock for five days
straight. With a short, sharp Stihl saw on his waist, the leafy branches and
later the heavy limps came down safely despite tight working conditions.
I can’t say enough about their professionalism, even
coordinating the work of the stump grinders, who thoroughly disposed of the
large trunks, the stump itself and left the premises clean.
This was a large job, an undertaking that required skill,
concentration, coordination and a tree man who could be one with the tree.
Highly recommend and will used again.

Rick York and crew took the time to give the job the attention it needed and did a
beautiful job pruning our very mature trees. Afterwards, they raked and
swept until everything was cleaned up nicely. Every member of the crew
was very professional and conscientious and made a point of making sure
I was satisfied with the work every step of the way. It's clear that they take pride in their work. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend their services.

We have had this company do work for us before and were very pleased with the service, the responsiveness and the people who serviced our home. Last month, with a hurricane headed our way, our neighbor pointed out that we had 2 very large oak tree limbs endangering power lines across our property and onto the adjacent neighbors' property. Since it involved power lines we called Progress Energy but they were not responsive. We then called Rick York on a Friday and, despite the last minute call and the many demands for their time, they arrived early Saturday morning and took care of our problem. The work was done carefully and efficiently and the guys could not have been nicer to the neighborhood "audience" that gathered. We really appreciated Rick and his people helping us to avert a significant potential problem on such short notice. This is a company you can depend on to do great work at a very fair price every time.

The Owner was prompt to respond to our inquiry, was polite and very helpful. The workers arrived on time and the job was done well. They cleaned up afterwards and left the premises tidy. We felt the price was fair. We will definitely use this company again and recommend them to others.

They did a good job removing the trees. There were two minor problems - they damaged our gate (which was in pretty rough shape in the first place so we didn't complain about it) and they scraped two corners of the house with large branches which left marks. Otherwise we were happy with them. The price was more or less reasonable for what they did. Their punctuality was good but when they got behind schedule and changed the date of our original appointment they didn't call. Once they did start work they showed up every morning at 8 o'clock.

I left a phone message requesting an estimate for tree trimming at my home. Mr. York returned the call the next day. Rather than come to my house and examine the trees and bushes in person, he asked me what I wanted done and provided an $800 "guesstimate," as he called it, over the phone. That's not the type of service I'm looking for. The other three Angie's List tree trimmers I called visited personally, toured the property and based their estimates on the work they recommended doing-not what some inexperienced person(me)told them by phone. I hired another company instead. The tree services I've used in previous years have also come out to eyeball the place before submitting their bids.

Needed a couple of trees in my back yard cut down. Called Rick York for an estimate and he promptly returned my call. Rick visited my home to take a look at the trees that same day and quoted me a better than fair price to do the job. We agreed on a starting day and time and Rick showed up on time that day. When he and his crew finished, I couldn't believe how thorough they cleaned up after all the debris. Rick's reliable, punctual, courteous, and a hard worker. I would highly recommend and will hire him again.
