A couple of weeks ago, Feb 2015, my shingle roof started leaking, right at the closest place to the flat roof, leaving stains and damage to my family room ceiling. I found another company with excellent ratings using Angie's list. They are up on the roof now fixing it. They can't believe the crappy job Owens Roofing did when they peeled up the shingle roof to tie it into the flat roof. He went into details about they didn't cut the old flashing and layer the new piece of flashing and didn't layer the shingles properly, with a whole explanation of why what Owens did caused the leak. We had had Owens do two complete roofs for other properties in the past, but with a different foreman, Gale. We were pleased with the work they did, and that is why I called them to do our flat roof.
They caused me to have a $500 repair of my shingle roof, and I have yet to determine how much it will cost to fix my ceiling damage. I just hope they did an OK job on the flat roof.
Also, I was told during the estimate that the fascia would be replaced free. He changed his mind apparently and charged me for that too.
When a subsequent roofer was hired and opened up the area of one of the repairs, he called the work inappropriate and amateurish. It has come to our attention through the person who gave us this company's name that another party she referred to R.J. Owens Roofing had a similar problem with the leak re-emerging. AVOID THIS COMPANY.
They were able to start the job a few days earlier than projected and in a day and a half completed the work. They left the yard and drive area clean and free of debris. The final cost came in within $100 of the estimate because we had a lot of rotten plywood that had to be replaced. We are thrilled with the new roof and working with Gayle was a pleasure!
and cleaned everything up and hauled away the debris. They explained how to get an energy rebate
and a discount on homeowners insurance. Everyone was very easy to work with. I would definitely
recommend this company.
One example, as some may know, in Florida, intense storms can appear in a moments notice. That happened during our roof replacement. Al and John did what they could to ensure that the roof would not leak, but a small gap opened up during the storm. John came out to our home on a moments notice and sealed the leak on our roof in the rain at night.
John and Al were very cooperative and helpful to the other contractors we had on site at the same time. We had an electrician (running power to the bathroom fans) and HVAC people who removed the existing package unit on the roof. It really put us at ease that Gayle and John took on coordinating with our other contractors on this project.
We are very impressed with the work ethic and performance of Gayle, John, Al, and their team. We are going to use them for any future project we have. Gayle was very responsive to all our concerns while the project was underway and really looked out for us.
The job foreman, Armando, was very professional and thorough. After the tear off, there was not one spec of trash, garbage, debris or nails anywhere on my property.
The work was very noisy at its peak and I would recommend not staying at home until it is concluded.
I had a wind mitigation report prepared after the work was complete by my home inspector. He indicated that the work was top quality.
I was so pleased with the whole process that I sent a letter to Mr. Owens directly. (I did not work directly with him during the bidding process and the installation.)
