"First let me clarify that Grady and myself are partners in this business. QHR is fully licensed and insured and our company has a fantastic reputation with the city building department and our clients that employ us. Our responsibilities to the business are split and diverse. Grady handles the field portion of our business and there is probably no one more attuned with all structural aspects of these historical homes. We have pages and pages of referrals to back these statements up. Grady did come to your house on 8/5 and then returned on 8/7. You called our office in regard to your “leaning” 2nd story garage apartment porch. With the extent of work that would need to be completed on your 1925 1410 square foot garage apartment (including structural plans), there is no way that we could give you anything other than a verbal ballpark in two days. I think it would be very fair to get into the logistics of your project. In our opinion, your garage and 2nd story rental apartment are literally falling into the alley. The clapboards have buckled; your rear 2nd story, 310 square foot, cantilevered porch (above the alley) in our opinion is extremely unsafe. This porch is pulling the entire structure into the alley. It’s pretty easy to conclude that if this structure falls it could potentially not only cause extreme damage but could very well injure someone in the process if not worse. Grady would not enter the 2nd story apartment in its’ current state and your husband mentioned that if he does go in, he always looks for the quickest way out should something happen. This is by no means a small remodeling task! I believe that we mentioned that renting this unit in its’ present state would be very dangerous. We did not provide you with a written estimate because you asked Grady to leave your property which he did immediately. You have the right to get as many opinions/project costs on this as makes you feel comfortable. In fact, Grady mentioned this to you. The pressing issue was not whether QHR completed this work, but that someone completed the work to put the structure into a safe state. As a licensed contractor on your home site viewing the extreme danger of this situation, we could be held potentially liable if we just walked away and did not report this potential danger to the city, which we have done. This was the worst case of a potential building fail that we have ever seen. We hope that you find someone that you feel comfortable working with on your project."
"We are very sorry that you felt this way. We took on this project after you fired your first contractor and tried our best to make you happy. We walked into a mess and straightened everything out. We did finish everything in your home and had all of our permits finalled out by the city. The only project that we stepped back from (which was never in our contract) was the custom build of your laundry room cabinets. Our company did not run out of steam, our custom cabinetry subcontractor who built your closet systems declined from working any further on your project. The subcontractor went so far as to come out on the weekend to accommodate your schedule. He decided that he was not the best fit for your custom laundry room cabinetry. It's very difficult to build something custom and not have a client available for input during the process other than via phone. It leads to a no win situation on all fronts. Communication is absolute key, especially on a custom project. QHR knew that the only communication that we would have would be via phone, which was not ideal and we felt that we probably would not make you happy. We hope you love your remodel and wish you the very best!"
"Thank you [member name removed] for your great review marks. We really enjoyed working on your project and hope that you love your new home!!"
"My name is Diane Portelli and I personally spoke with you on the phone. I apologize sincerely if you felt slighted in any way. I inquired as to where you lived only for information as to what county you were in. Currently, we have 4 crews working full time and unfortunately we cannot take on any additional work outside of Pinellas County. It certainly would not be fair to you at all if I did not mention this upfront. Sometimes this happens to high quality contractors with excellent references and in no way did I mean to slight you. I could not give you any names of contractors as we do not partner with other contractors and I would not want to recommend anyone if I am not familiar with their work. I wish you the best with your project and I am so sorry that we weren't able to take on your project. Happy Holidays! Diane Portelli, Contractor, Quality Home Renovators"
