Serving the community since 1976, Northside Hospital is a 288-bed facility, offering a full range of services including interventional stroke care; full-service orthopedic and spine treatment; a 24-hour emergency department; preventative and corrective cardiac care; and general surgery. As the first Comprehensive Stroke Center in St. Petersburg, our technologically advanced facility allows our superior physicians and nursing staff to care for our growing community. Our focus on quality and safety includes recognition from The Joint Commission as being a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, as well as receiving an “A” Hospital Safety Score from The Leapfrog Group. With campus-based specialized units, such as the Tampa Bay Heart Institute; the Neuroscience Institute for Interventional Neuroradiology and neurologic care; an outpatient Heart Failure Clinic; and Fast Track emergency service, Northside Hospital continues to enhance and expand its services to better serve the St. Petersburg community.

AFTER A FEW HOURS, IT WAS DECIDED THAT SHE NEEDED BETTER MONITORING THAN WAS AVAILABLE IN A STANDARD WARD, SO SHE WAS SHIPPED TO MICU. GOBS OF ATTENTION! TESTS INDICATED POSSIBLE GALL BLADDER PROBLEM.
ALTHOUGH THERE WERE MANY BRIGHT AND CAPABLE PHYSICIANS WHO LOOKED AT HER (DRs. PATEL AND KAMATH STOOD OUT), THE INITIAL RECOMMENDATION WAS FOR SURGICAL REMOVAL OF THE GALL BLADDER. i THOUGHT THAT MIGHT CURE THE PROBLEM BUT KILL THE PATIENT. WE FINALLY PREVAILED -- NO SURGERY, AND THE PATIENT WAS SHIPPED BACK TO A STANDARD WARD.
SHE HAD COMPLAINED OF A MILD PAIN IN HER STOMACH (PROBABLY CAUSED BY HER HAVING EATEN NOTHING FOR ALMOST TWO DAYS. A GI (PERHAPS A RESIDENT) VISITED HER, TOLD HER HE WANTED TO DO A COLONOSCOPY. WHEN SHE REFUSED, HE TOLD HER, and quot;WELL, IF THAT'S THE WAY YOU FEEL, YOU MAY AS WELL GO HOME!and quot; AND WITH THAT HE DEPARTED. WORST BEDSIDE MANNER OF WHICH i'VE EVER HEARD.
SHE WAS RELEASED AFTER SIX DAYS TO A REHAB FACILITY (CONSULATE ON PARK BLVD) WHICH WAS EXCELLENT
