The original meetings and estimating process went fairly well but it was all downhill after that. The contract was based on a cost plus percentage which meant that they marked everything up by 30% including their supervision and internal labor costs. Our biggest mistake was not having an attorney review the contract prior to our signing it. Shortly after the project began we realized that this process was going to be difficult when Kathe Bierhoff told us that we had no right to enter our the remodeled area because it was a construction site. This was a room in our own home that we were occupying during the process. We had several issues with the subcontractors not showing up on time or even at all and Ms. Bierhoff was advocating for them instead of us (her clients). She threatened to shut the project down and since she held all the permits we would have been left stranded with a gaping hole in our floor and the project in a state of suspension. We reluctantly moved forward but it turned out to be a very adversarial relationship. We eventually consulted an attorney who tried to get an arbitration scheduled but Herr Contracting was extremely uncooperative and we just ended up paying the bill and taking our hits. The quality of the construction was sub par and the bathroom tiles were falling off the walls just a year after the job was completed.

The overall job was completed but it was not to my total satisfaction. It was at a cost that was much higher than it was estimated. I would not hire them again in the future.
