"We installed your roof in August 2007. We used the best products available at that time ten years ago. A Old Time Roofing provided you with a five year labor warranty and GAF provided a fifty year manufacture warranty. During that time we received two calls saying your roof was leaking. The first call in October 2007 and the second call in November 2008. We went out immediately and stopped the leaks. The labor warranty expired in August 2012. We didn't hear from you until February 2015 saying your roof was leaking. There were 5 areas of the roof that had rusted nails that had to be replaced. We did the repair in March 2015. You were only charged $800 for the repair. This past Monday, we received a call from you saying your contractor had found a leak in your roof. With tropical storm Emily surprising us, requests for appointments were very high that day. You were initially told we couldn't be out right away because of the weather, but we would try to set up an appointment for something later in the week, weather permitting. We had a cancellation and you were called immediately to see if we could come out. You told us your general contractor was going to take care of it, so don't worry about it. A few minutes later, you called back saying you wanted us to come out, but we couldn't because we had already filled the appointment time. We scheduled an appointment with you for the afternoon on Tuesday, August 2nd. My technician was able to finish his warranty repair earlier than expected, and called you to see if you could meet earlier. You told the technician you had someone else take care of it and wanted to cancel. However, we are sorry that you feel you've been treated less than satisfactorily. We have gone above and beyond to stop the leaks in your roof, and to accommodate appointments to track/repair your leaks."
I had done my homework as to the materials and installation of clay tiles to withstand hurricane force winds as per FEMA recommendations, the Florida building code, and the Miami-Dade building code. I wanted a clay tile roof with an underlayment that would also last as long as the clay tiles themselves.
Rob Norton from A Old Time Roofing came out and listened to my requirements for a new roof, the additional flat roof over the patio, three Solartube lights to be installed, and the old vents to be removed. Rob took down notes, took roof measurements and said he would be back with a proposal in a few days.
To get the best roofing contractor I had talked to 8 different roofing companies spending 1.5 hours with each roofer. You could say I am a very meticulous customer who has educated himself on the roofing industry codes and standards.
Rob Norton from A Old Time Roofing returned back with a very detail proposal for me, taking into account my needs, and went even as far as color coding the proposal with the different steps and layers of the re-roofing work to be done on my house.
Of the 8 different Roofing company bids I had obtained, I went ahead and selected A Old Time Roofing to do the work.
During the installation, Rob Norton was very informative, and kept me in the loop every step of the way. A Old Time Roofing had two sets of specialized crews, one to remove the old tile and install the new underlayment, and one crew to install the new clay tiles.
All work was done very well, to code and in a timely manner. I highly recommend A Old Time Roofing for anyone looking to re-roof their home the correct way.
Excellent! The installation crew arrived a half-hour before the appointment time, and went right to work removing the old roof, making repairs as needed as they went along. They took all of the photos required as they went along to make sure that I would get the best insurance rates available, and the sales person stopped by several times during the day to check on their progress and keep us posted. The whole job was completed in one day, and approved by the city examiner the next day.
Everything was exactly as promised; the job was well done, the workers actually worked every minute they were there (not counting a short lunch break), and they made sure everything was 100% cleaned up before they left.
The price was not the cheapest but it was best price for the quality of the products and workmanship delivered. I would (and have) recommend them highly.
The new roof had continued issues, shingles sliding down the Mansard, the leaks mentioned above because the treatment of a gutter for the outside area around the pool was not done properly - I did let them remove the gutter. Shingles continued to slide off the front and they repaired them.
This continued from 2006 - 2012. For a while it looked like everything was ok. Then in late 2013, the plywood on the front of the house seems to have become loose from the rafters; and additional shingles started sliding off the mansard on the side of the house. I called Olde Time, they sent someone to see. I thought I had a 20 year guarantee on the roof - but apparently that is just on the materials and any guarantee from Olde Time has now expired. I called and that was the first thing they told me. I asked that the person I talk with look at my file and see how many times they had been out here. She agreed it was excessive. But she also told me that general roof maintenance is to be expected. I asked if having plywood separate from rafters was "something to expect over time". I also asked if having shingles slide off was "normal maintneance" the owner was supposed to come take a look....Never saw him. In January I had to leave the country for an extended time for my job. Since returning, I see the shingles on the side are worse than ever and some that are coming loose appear not to have any nail holes or anything that would keep them attached.
We have had no hurricanes, no serious wind storms. i keep it clean, no build up of leaves, etc. I have never heard of a company that that claims to be responsible and in business for many years would not honor what is in my opinion shoddy workmanship. And I am extremely unhappy that they seem to have no intention of every following up on my calls. I plan to call again and contact the county inspectors to see if the shingles really were nailed in place and not stapled or just slid up under the flashing and I will ask them to see how that piece of plywood was attached in the front. I paid Olde Time to replace plywood as needed and relied on them to live up to the reputation they enjoyed for so many years. We'll see...
The Sales Person, Jack, did not just sell the job and move on, he brought out tarps to help us until the roof could be started since we were at the height of the rainy season; he was also on the job site several times, taking pictures so he could e-mail them to us to enable us to save money with our insurance. Their office person, Cindy, was able to be included on a conference call with the home inspector when he had some questions about the new roof and wasn't bothered when we had to call back multiple times while the inspector was at our home.
I cannot understand some of the negative responses since this certainly was not our experience. We have a roof we love, at a reasonable price done by a TEAM of professionals. They exceeded our expectations; what more could we have asked for? We have referred to them 3 of our friends because we were so happy with our experience.
"Dear (Member name removed), We appreciate the time you took to submit a review. We apologize for the miscommunication; we had only been in contact with your partner Elizabeth because she was the signer on our agreement to replace the roof. It is our primary goal to provide quality workmanship and superior customer service. It is our policy to do a complete nail sweep to make sure all stray nails are not in your yard or driveway and return your property to its original state when the job is complete. The crew has been reprimanded for not following company procedures. We appreciate your business; if there is anything we can do for you in the future, please call our office at (727) 824-9996."
