"Thank you for your kind review and understanding we look forward to serving you in the future"
My daughter ( the homeowner ) signed a contract back in November 2014 with a deposit of $243.00 and an agreed upon work window from Monday Jan 5th thru Friday 9th as we both had to schedule vacation time off work to be there while the work was being done. My daughter took Monday off and I scheduled to be there Tuesday thru Friday. The day before work was to begin my daughter called him to confirm the schedule and was told he couldn't be there due to being backed up on another job. he assured her he would be there Tuesday morning at 9 am. That was the first work day lost.
I got up at 3 am on Tuesday morning to drive 4 hours so I could be sure to let the painters in at 9 am. At 9.30 She called him and was told he would be another day late. Day two lost. She expressed her concern about him being able to complete the job by Friday and he assured her he would be there on Wednesday morning at 9 am with extra guys. He showed up around 10.30 . There were two of them. They had no equipment and had to use our Step ladder, 24 ft extension ladder, shop vac and large black bags to even begin removing the popcorn ceiling. He said that his van was stolen by his employee and had all of his equipment in it.
The next day Thursday he showed up around 10.45 and said he had a real problem. all of our paint was in his van and he needed 250.00 dollars to buy more so that he could do the job. ( no mention of this the day earlier ) I reluctantly gave him a check because I wanted the job to go forward for my daughter. He left to go and get paint and returned 3 hours later with 5 gallons of paint. I asked him why it took so long and he said he ran out of gas. I once again expressed concern about them being finished by Friday and he said with extra guys it was going to be done. I also had serious doubts about the five gallons of paint being enough, he assured me more than once that it was.
Friday morning they showed up around 10 am , there was one extra guy. They continued to do the prep work and sanded the walls until there was a thick layer of drywall dust covering the two couches, coffee table , TV and foozball table that they had not covered due to not having enough drop cloths. They had to send one of their guys to buy more. Jeff then approached me and said he had another problem, He didn't have enough money to buy the primer and would I go and buy it. I told him absolutely not . The games were over for me. I called Sherwin Williams and they told me the paint was $30 , less if you were a painter with an account. That"s $150 worth out of $250. He showed up later with a five gallon bucket that had about 3 gallons of paint dumped in it ( he said it was primer). We are not sure where it came from or what it was exactly After all that there was still no paint on the walls by Friday afternoon.
We fired Jeff Sowers that afternoon and spent the evening cleaning the house and our equipment that he used.We have to go through the whole process again of hiring a painter and taking time off work.
He asked me not to give him a bad review on Angie's List and I told him I would give him the review that he earned.
We spent about $500 dollars and cut our losses there. Do yourself a favor and stay well away from this company.
"Please call me and I will be happy to make amends and I did fite that eorket"
I contacted Angie's List, by the way, to let them know what had happened. They offered to help "mediate" if I wanted to PAY them for a premium membership! I personally believe that Angie's List should take Jeff Sowers Painting off of their approved list of vendors. I don't need to mediate with crooks, but I do believe that innocent people should not be subjected to them. Although I have had one other good experience with a sprinkler company, I will not use Angie's List again for services.
"I am not a Liar or a theif and it was your husband's idea to pay me weekly as far as me paying my help I paid them every time you paid me and the two your referring to I fired them after learning of there drug problem and last of all how do you think the police got the names and phone numbers for the two suspects I feel sick about your jewelry but I assure you I had no knowledge of it until you called and told me"
I did have quality issues with the use of the sprayer. I changed colors of white on the ceiling, and the ceilings that didn't have the painting completely done has nice foot-wide swaths above the walls that the sprayers did paint. I have to assume very little tarping and masking was done, since so much furniture and countertops, etc had a nice dusting of paint residue. The closet doors weren't covered (the assumption that I was replacing them anyway, which was part of my communication), but the stuff inside the closets got painted with the sprayer too. Clothes, fan blades that were removed for the ceiling spray, my laptop that I put in there to keep out of the way...the work was ridiculously cheap but the investment to clean and throw away some clothes notched that up. I just can't believe it would be normal to spray on & around closet doors and not anticipate things inside to be affected as well? My beautiful heirloom leather coat, may it rest in peace.
Also during the pre-paint walk-through I mentioned I was having a handyman come to fix the numerous imperfections in the walls that were to be painted, the response was to please let Jeff's team do that work, since he didn't trust a handyman's quality. I was impressed, until I came back and saw many missed areas and some that were done very poorly, making the walls look even worse (drama aside, maybe just not better). Again that could be because I poorly communicated my wishes and was absent.
In fairness, when Jeff came by for the add'l payment and he saw some of the paint drips on the furniture he quickly offered to make it right. But the fact of so many issues...I can only assume the work leader was a new guy. Because Jeff seemed to have a higher quality standard based on my couple of interactions.
On the plus side, the prep work that the painters had to do was amazing. There was a lot of furniture moving (I had just dumped my household goods shipment in the middle of each room), all the carpet cutting, and dis-assembly of fixtures. And some priming was done too. I know it irritated them, but the painters did a good job of it and I imagine it took a significant amount of manpower from the painting.
There are some add'l issues but don't need to belabor the point. I'm very surprised I had all this to write after such glowing reviews. Must be a new guy on the team, is all I can guess. And I need to be more clear and/or present for future work done.
"I am so sorry I was not on the job until the end and was not aware of the inside of the closets and the new guy has been relieved if his job I will personaly run all my jobs in the future if I owe you please let me know. JEFFREY SOWERS"
Jeff and his crew did a great job on walls, ceilings, trim, and doors in our den, living room, dining room, and kitchen. They did a professional job for a reasonable price. Jeremy didn't like the initial look of the ceilings, and the guys spent extra time and paint on making sure it was right. All the guys were pleasant and professional, and went out of their way to make sure we weren't inconvenienced more than necessary during the job. We've already recommended Jeff and his crew to friends.
