Just tell him what your thoughts are for the end result and he'll guide you with his suggestions based on years of experience. I was trying to match drawer fronts to the beautiful deep color on the surface of the colonial styled console table.
Years ago I stripped and refinished the drawers however my attempt didn't produce the desired finish. I wanted the piece of furniture to make a beautiful statement in my new condo living room so I decided to have the drawers professionally refinished.
Trying to match the color involved two stages. John prepared a tri color sample strip on veneer based on photos I provided. He had me take this home and compare color intensities to the console table surface. Following stage one of the actual applied color process John advised that I take home one of the drawers to see it in place and with the effects of the room lighting. He tweaked the final color in stage two and the applied sheen to perfection!
The second piece I had done was a hand me down vintage accent chair with lots of carved detail and curves. I didn't elect to have it completely stripped but rather a less aggressive process of restoration that would maintain it's "aged" appearance. The more apparent scratches and dents were repaired and the finish is definitely an improvement. The chair is now at the upholsterer and I can't wait to get it in place adjacent to the console table I mentioned above.
I told John I would refer him without hesitation. Here's my stage one on Angie's List.
