Couldn't have been better. Went from a ho-hum builder grade kitchen to a classic show-piece. All our friends say WOW!

Our opinion is the following:
The work Island Bay Homes performed on our home addition did not make us happy and we are not completely satisfied with the end result. They did not build exactly what we wanted or expected.
During the construction we experienced tension and worry and now feel we should have employed a different contractor entirely.
We do not endorse or recommend Island Bay Homes.

It went great. Working with Brian and Dan was an excellent experience. Not only were they on time but they actually returned my phone calls in a speedy fashion which I was unaccustomed to with other contractors before them. Any time I had a concern we were able to work through it with no issue. I am very particular about my things and even two years later I am constantly talking to people about the work island bay did for us. The finished project exceeded my expectations as did their customer service. I was comfortable with the crews that came to work on the house and was very impressed by their cleanup. Even after our service was completed any issues that arose Brian was quick to take care of. I would highly recommend Island Bay Homes to anyone whether you are adding an addition as we did or building a home from scratch. They were an excellent company to work with.

"[Member name removed], I wanted to thank you for your recent review on Angie's List! We're glad that your experience was a pleasant one. Island Bay strives to make our customers dreams become reality by delivering a good product, on time, and at a reasonable price. We hope you'll enjoy your patio for years to come. Again, we can't thank you enough. Please keep us in mind if you have any projects in mind for the future. Sincerely, Brian"

The quality of their work is generally good, although sometimes the subs did a substandard job. One example was an area in a bathroom where old paint needed to be sanded down or scraped away to ensure a smooth surface for the new paint. This was not done, leaving an unacceptably rough outcome. How does a professional think that would be acceptable? Another example was very poor paint matching in several areas which the sub applied without mentioning there was a problem. Dan, one of the principals of Island Bay, was very responsive and did repair all these issues so in the end most areas came out looking decent.
Some subs did not do work when they said they would, causing significant delays as some tasks required previous tasks to be completed. This chain of delays extended the work by about a month, meaning I had to fork over an extra mortgage payment before selling my home. Not good.
Dan tries hard to balance the sometimes unprofessional work and behavior of his subs to make things come together. He manages to make it work, with delays and reworking, but didn't charge me any extra for the extra work necessitated by his subs messing up. Add about double the time quoted for the work so you won't be disappointed, but keep in mind that Dan is honest and tries very hard. Perhaps they will evolve their team of subs to more professional ones who honor their commitments around quality and time-frames.
In summary, my job had decent quality but was completed about a month behind. Island Bay is honest, responsive, and tries to make things work. On balance, a positive experience.

Once the work was started it was in pieces. Someone would come to do a portion of the job and then days later, someone else would come to do another piece, and then a week later someone else would show up, etc. For about a week's worth of work, it took over 5 weeks. I didn't realize it at the time (my bad for not asking), but all work was contracted out to other companys or individuals. The coordination of all these services in a timely manner was not coordinated very well. The individual contractors all did very good to excellent work.

We are in the process of figuring out if we want another bathroom remodeled or not. They were very responsive. They had no problems accommodating our ideas. They communicate through email for bids. He is awesome with communication. I would definitely recommend him.

We found Brian and Dan to be most professional and great to work with from start to finish. Their crews were clean, quiet, and very considerate of our home and our schedules. The workmanship is absolutely the best and the attention to detail just amazing. In order to keep things (price) in perspective, my husband and I kept saying to each other "It's a bathroom. Not a spa." Thanks to Dan, Brian, and their wonderful, talented associates - we ended up with a "spa" and it's our favorite room in the house .Following our remodel, we had a "bathroom party" to show our neigbors the transformation. Everyone was just in awe. We would not hestate to hire again and certainly recommend them to all our friends.
Response from Island Bay Homes
"We are glad we could make your SPA dreams come true. I'm sure you will enjoy it for years to come. You two were a pleasure to work with and a special thanks for inviting us to the "Bathroom Party". We had a great time."

I got them from Angie's List. It was a positive experience. They were very good. I think they did a very good job. They were able to stick to the quote. Being in an older home they went into some unexpected problems but they were able to work around them and take care of them. The two contractors were very good. Their price was pretty reasonable. They did a good job. I was very satisfied with their work. They were excellent and they were here for days. They were always here when they said they were going to be here. I intend to call them again.
Response from Island Bay Homes
"Thank you for giving us the chance to repair your flooring and install new drywall. Every job has its unique suprises but its nothing we cant take care of. Our goal is completing the job no matter what might come up."

We called around to several local contractors, and settled on Island Bay Homes. In hindsight, we couldn't be more pleased with this decision and would definitely recommend them to anyone considering any remodeling job. Brian and Dan were professional, knowledgeable, and more than happy to be accommodating to our schedules, our needs, and to go above and beyond on an occasion or 2. We were very pleased with their pricing, though not the cheapest of the contractors we got quotes from, but certainly not the most expensive. The work they and their team performed was exceptional craftmanship. Attention to detail was very prevalent and you could tell their desire to please was their highest priority. Brian's wife even had a baby during the project, but that did not delay ongoing work. The bathroom turned out better than we expected, and I promise you my wife and I are very picky when it comes to detail. I absolutely would not hesitate to hire them again if another project came up.
Response from Island Bay Homes
"Thank you for choosing Island Bay Homes. Working around schedules is not a problem. We understand that we have to make the construction process as seamless as possible in your day to day life. We hope you enjoy your new bathroom for years to come."

Brian Bisesto and his partner Dan Hart were incredible to work with! From the first moment they came over to discuss our remodeling project and give us an estimate, I knew we had found our contractors and I was never prooved wrong during the whole project. They are truly unique among contractors for several reasons. When they gave us their estimate (which was in the midrange of other estimates we received) it included a line-by-line breakdown of the budget, they stayed within budget even though we didn't start the project for 10 months, and it was their upfront policy to have us pay for each stage of the project as it was completed and not beforehand. They were personable, well-trained, honest, and experienced contractors who were very dedicated to doing the best job possible, they accomodated us in every way to make this remodeling project totally nonintrusive to us. During every phase of our project, we found Brian and Dan extremely knowledgeable and trustworthy. We were informed every step of the way of what was/would happen next, and every one of the subcontracters they used were just as professional, hard-working, and obviously took pride in their work and craftmanship. After hearing all the horror stories about dishonest and unreliable contractors, I am so thankful that we had Island Bay Homes do our remodeling work. Our 1981 condo now looks as moderm as if it was built last year, and we couldn't be more pleased. BTW, for those of you who might thing $39,000 seems high, if we hadn't wanted the heated floors and expensive windowswith blinds between the glass , this project would have cost $10,000 to $15,000 less.
