We are disappointed with Winn's work. On a positive note, the job started on time and the trees seem reasonably healthy, we think, though smaller than we expected. We are also happy with the company Winn's subcontracted out the curbing to. At the start of the project, we asked several times to have a weed barrier put under the flower bed mulch. Winn's convinced us that it was not necessary. The result....weeds all through the mulch in less than one week. We think that they just didn't want to bother. Winn's installed our sprinkler system, which seemed to work well. They neglected, however, to cut a circle around each sprinkler head and install concrete rings. The result: the new sod grew over the sprinkler heads within a month. We had to dig them up and buy rings ourselves. The mulch layer they put in the flower beds was very thin as there were places you could still see the dirt underneath. The sod is a big disappiontment. It looks great in certain areas of the house, such as the back and side, but never took off in parts of the front of the house. Big brown patches and lots of weeds. We kept bringing this up, but they said just be patient. We think that they are angry that we did not sign a lawn maintenance contract with them (way too expensive) so they never really cared about the work or making things right. We now have to bring in other professionals to fix the problems. Bottom line, Winn's would not stand behind their work. They said we mowed it too short...not true. The guy we hired is a stickler about mowing high. They said that the lawn did not get enough water...not true...they actually set up the sprinkler system and water distribution schedule, which was followed exactly. We have the crazy high water bills to prove it. They said weeds blew over from the neighbors....we don't believe this either....we think that some of the sod was just not good...poor quality. They are fantastic salesmen. I probably would have believed anything they said when I first met with the company. I don't anymore. Hiring Winn's was a hugely expensive mistake. We are not rich so this is a financial blow that will cost us going forward. We are in the process of hiring experts to fix the problems.
Description of Work: We purchased a foreclosure in P**** Gorda and the first item of business was the landscaping. We did a lot of reseach and was impressed by Winn's sales pitch and constant reassurance. They were very expensive, but we felt that it would be worth it based on meetings with the company representative. Winn's was to tear out the existing bushes, lawn, and sprinkler system. They would create flower beds, install new palm trees, new sod, new sprinkler system, new mulch, and concrete curbing around the flower beds. Aside from the palm trees, no other plants or bushes were quoted out.
